It is with profound sadness, yet immense gratitude for a life beautifully lived, that we announce the passing of our beloved Ernest Garcia Perez. Born on July 02, 1945, in the heart of Bay City, Texas, Ernest carried the warmth and spirit of his roots throughout his remarkable journey. He peacefully departed this life on December 27, 2025.
In 1965, Ernest found his childhood sweetheart in Janie Sanchez Perez, and on June 5th of that year, they began their enduring love story 59 years. Shortly after their wedding, they established their home in Houston, Texas, where they lovingly raised their three cherished children: Criselda Perez Ayala, affectionately known as “Crissy” (and her husband, Bernardo “Barney”), Ernest Eugene Perez, or “Geno” (and his wife, Jennifer), and Roman Anthony Perez, known to all as “Romy” (and his wife, Ann). His joy expanded exponentially with the arrival of his grandchildren, Andrew Diaz (and his wife, Deja), Jaden Diaz, Gina, Alena, Roman, and Merek, each of whom brought immense pride and happiness to his life.
Ernest dedicated five decades of his professional life to Cameron Iron Works, later known as Wyman Gordon. He embarked on his career as a diligent machine operator, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to his craft, and concluded his distinguished tenure as a respected inspector. His exemplary work ethic and dedication left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the industry.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ernest’s true legacy lies in his boundless love for his family and his community. He was a man who generously gave of his time, talent, and treasure, embodying the spirit of service. He could often be found coaching and volunteering for countless children’s and grandchildren’s sports leagues and school programs, always a fervent supporter and an encouraging presence on the sidelines. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was an active and cherished member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where he found further avenues to serve others. Ernest possessed a natural inclination to help, whether it was through social activities or simply extending a helping hand to a neighbor – a familiar and welcome sight as he meticulously cared for neighborhood lawns, always keeping fit and active.
Ernest was truly a beloved son, husband, father, and a doting "Popo" to his grandchildren. He was also a treasured brother, brother-in-law, uncle, in-law, godfather, and a loyal friend to a multitude of individuals whose lives he profoundly enriched with his kindness and wisdom. He will be missed more deeply than words can convey, but his spirit of love, dedication, and selfless service will forever resonate within the hearts of his family and all those whose paths he crossed.
Ernest is now reunited in eternal peace with those who preceded him in death: his love of his life Janie Sanchez Perez, his beloved parents, Roman Perez and Antonia Garcia Perez; his sisters, Josephine Perez Chavez (and Antonio, Sr.), Petra Mata (and Pete), Refugia Mejias (and Manuel), and Mary Nancy Gutierrez (and Alonzo); his brothers, Gilbert (whose memory is cherished by his surviving wife, Virginia), Socorro Martinez (and Mary Lou); the Ayala babies; and his in-laws, Ramon Ayala (survived by Amparo Escobedo Ayala) and James Middleton (survived by Barbara Middleton). We take comfort in knowing that he is now praising and rejoicing in the glorious embrace of Heaven, eternally reunited with his loved ones.
With heartfelt remembrance,
Crissy, Geno, Romy & his loving family.
