Ernest Smither Jr. was born July 6, 1948 in Houston Texas to Ethel & Ernest Smither Sr.
He attended and graduated near the top of his class from Kashmere Gardens High School. Mr Smither was an excellent student and enjoyed playing all kinds of sports. Mr Smither was also top runner up in the state wide Spelling bee competition which he often fondly spoke of.
After graduation he attending Prairie View A&M University and majored in Electrical Engineering. This is where his life would change forever! Not only did he pledge his beloved Fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha Inc, but he met the love of his life Jacqulyn Holley where they would later marry before his graduation. After graduation they would welcome their pride and joy Ernest Smither III into the world.
From that point on, Mr Smither would be a force in Corporate America for the next 30 plus years. With leadership roles in Exxon Mobile, Ford Motor Company, Digital Equipment corporation, IBM, and ended his corporate career as Vice President at Exodus Communications. But his career did not stop there. Along with his son they started The Smither Group LLC which concentrated in real estate development and property management. After 12 years Mr Smither decided to officially retire.
Along the way, he had great times with family and close friends, but the apple of his eye was his grandchildren. Sierra Joi Smither, and Ernest John Smither IV, both of which gave him great pride and joy. He could be often heard saying that, “the Smither Family is in great hands with those two!” He also had great love and support for his daughter in law Shelby Smither.
Mr Smither had been married to his wife Jacqulyn for 50 great years, they were a devoted team,and loved each other very much.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother Glenn Ray Smither, his big sister Beverly “Gracious” McDaniel, his Beloved Grandmother, Alice Mills, his Aunt Norma Christmon and his sister in law Carolyn Holley.
“Junior” as he was affectionately known by family will remain in the hearts of his loving Mother Ethel Smither, his baby sister, Wendy Smither, his brother Louis Thompson, first cousin’s Detra Christmon-Burnside, Jay Christmon, Amber Williams, and his sister in law Debra Lucas with a host of cousins and many dear friends.
