

She was born on the 21st of June 1929, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Upon graduating from Mather School of Nursing in New Orleans in 1950, she accepted her first nursing assignment at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ethel then served as a charge nurse at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. After moving to Houston, she was a staff nurse at Methodist Hospital on the Neurosurgery Unit for twenty years. She was a dedicated nurse who valued her patients.
Ethel is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Steger; her parents, William and Lillian Young Aitken; her sisters, Genevieve Aitken Hassinger and Lillian Aitken.
She is also preceded in death by her first husband and father of her daughter, Samuel F. Boushy, M.D.
Ethel will lovingly be remembered by her daughter, Liela Boushy Cooper; her grandson Caden Cooper, both of Houston; her nephew, James Hassinger III (Lee Prieto) of New Orleans, Louisiana; and her cousins.
The family gathered for a private service in New Orleans, Louisiana on Thursday, the 5th of January 2023.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in her name be directed to charity of choice.
