Eugene Henry Wolfe was born on February 24th, 1925, and was raised in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He and his family moved all over the east coast following his dream as an Electrical Engineer with Philco Television Receivers, Western Electric/Martin Marietta and then finally Southwestern Bell. He succumbed to a stroke on May 10th 2015, in his final adopted hometown of Houston, Texas.
Eugene leaves behind a beautiful and devoted wife, Janis R. Wolfe, whom he loved for 69 years. He also leaves behind a daughter and two sons. Eugenia Y. Sylvester, husband Jim, Eugene H. Wolfe II and his family, Terry W. Wolfe and wife Margaret, as well as 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. They were all recipients of his unconditional love and counseling up until the day of his passing.
Eugene started his life in Michigan and is where he went through school until, in high school; where he was forced to sit beside a young lady whom later would be his wife. He witnessed the world go back to war and tried to enlist in the Navy. His flat feet got him turned down but was later drafted into the Navy as an Electrician Specialist. He had no stomach for ships and was always sick so he was assigned to a Marine detail in Guam as a radio man for the duration of World War II. When the war ended he was honorably discharged and went back to vocational school to learn about a radically new technology television. Upon graduation he was made an instructor. He then went to work for the Hudson Motor Company, however, he found the work too tedious and finally found his niche as an Electrical Engineer for Western Electric/Martin Marietta. He was put on some very sensitive projects including the development of the Nike and Hercules guided missiles. He later moved over to Southwestern Bell where he spent the remainder of his professional career.
Eugene only had time to graduate from high school but pushed for all the on the job training he could obtain. He earned his Electrical Engineering expertise through self-discipline and independent study. He became a highly sought after engineer. When he was not working he loved to fish and actually owned a boat and took the family on many camping adventures.
The family will have an open casket viewing on May 18, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Brookside Chapel 3410 FM W. 1960. On May 19th 2015, Eugene Henry Wolfe will receive our final blessing at the Brookside Chapel at 10:00 a.m. and then following the ceremony be laid to rest at Veteran’s Houston National Cemetery.
