Angie is also survived by her sister-in-law Lorie Reyna, brother-in-law Rudy Salinas and his wife Stella, and many nieces, nephews, and other family members. Born on April 12, 1930 in Mission, Texas, in Hidalgo County, Angie was a lifelong resident of Houston, Texas.
She was a proud graduate of Milby High School, where she was a member of the Coed Cadets snare drum corps in her senior year. While her family was her first priority, Angie willingly worked in several different part-time jobs to help with the family finances. She was one of the early sales associates hired by the first Target store in Houston, working at the jewelry counter for 5 years. Later, her love of flowers inspired her to enroll in a floral design course. Because of her training, she was hired at a local Safeway store where she realized her dream to become a florist. When Safeway stores closed, another opportunity for Angie’s talents became available. Angie was hired as a registrar with Houston Community College. She held that part-time position for 25 years, where she helped countless students realize their dreams of achieving a college education. Her husband, Oscar, and his pursuits were her priority throughout their 69-year marriage. She was always by his side, helping him in the grocery store he owned in Texas City for several years, at the fruit stand they had in southeast Houston, and the jobs he held as a produce manager at Houston area grocery stores. She was a longtime member of Christian Temple Assembly of God Church (now CT Church), serving as a Sunday School teacher and member of the women’s ministry. She and her husband’s desire and vision to minister to the Hispanic community was realized when a Spanish-speaking only Sunday School class was formed, led by Oscar and Angie for 15 years. The small class of 25 has now grown over the years to a 300+ member congregation. She loved gardening, joke telling, reading her Bible and novels, and making sure everyone in her world was okay. First and foremost in her life was her love of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She lovingly embraced every neighbor, every stranger with her loving kindness and genuine concern for their welfare. Her love knew no boundaries. She lived her life as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt; family was everything to her.
