Evelyn L. Ware, of Houston, Texas passed away on August 4, 2022. She was born June 21, 1937 in Mason, Texas to Luther Butler and Rosalea (Cavaness) Butler. She was a proud Alumni of The University of Texas. She spent her early life preforming on many different stages: singing weekly on the Tex Stephens Christian television program, performing with the Grand Opera Festival and appearing on various radio programs. Spending her early years at UT majoring in voice and continuing to perform in various avenues. Whether through church, choral groups or just playing piano with the grandchildren, music was also a huge part of her life. She loved the outdoors and had an extraordinary ability with plants. Turning that hobby into a business, owning Rainbow Gardens Daylilies in Victoria, TX for over 20 years. Like any good southern wife, in addition to the Gardens, she was the business manager for her husband’s medical practice, a member of Beta Sigma Phi serving in leadership and receiving many awards, a lifetime member of The Texas Association of Nurserymen, The American Hemerocallis Society and a Harris County Election Judge. She was a Christian and a lifelong member of the Church of Christ recently attending Memorial Church of Christ. Evelyn was a loving, devoted wife and partner for 49 years to Everett. She was a loving, fun and extremely patient mother and grandmother. She loved being around young people because she said they kept her young! A full “the more the merrier” house, laughter and joyful noise were her favorite times.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband J. Everett Ware and her parents Luther and Rosalea Butler. She is survived by her children Caroline & husband Sean, Edward & wife Angella, and Katherine Hicks; grandchildren Scott, Austin & Savannah Smith, Hayden Ware, Matthew and Kate Hicks, Bill & wife Darian Hicks, Madison & husband Evan Bullock and Isabel, Francesco & Abriana Hernandez; great grandchildren Jayse, Luke and Judah.
The family would like to express thanks to Claudia Garcia and Priscilla Jeffrey with hospice for their loving care and support.
