

The Late Isi ichie Fabian Ugonna Okeke was born on October 9, 1942 into the family of late Hon. & Mrs. Francis Okeke of Nwabuluche family in Akamili Umudim, Nnewi North LGA.
After his secondary schooling, Fabian joined the Law Library of the Federal Ministry of Justice Enugu, where he worked until the break out of the Nigerian – Biafran civil war in 1967. During the war, he displayed gallantry as a Lieutenant in the Biafran Army and Adjutant in the Biafran training Deport Umuaka, Orlu.
At the end of the civil war, he went back to his job at the Ministry of Justice, which he combined with journalism, as a reporter for the Spark Magazine and a columnist in the Renaissance Newspaper.
Fabian’ determination to further his education led him to United States of America, where he secured an admission into Wichita State University in 1979 for his bachelor’s degree and thereafter his Master’s degree.
He and his wife, Joan “Ojiugo” Okeke, had their first two children, Amaka and Irene, before moving to Houston where they had their last two children, Nancy and Kennedy. Fabian loved to write and tell stories so he took to his passion as a journalist in 1995 to start a newspaper called, “VOICE OF AFRICA” which was an opportunity to bridge the gap for those of us Nigerians living abroad. He became a prominent and active member within the Nigerian community in Houston and was President of Ndi-Ichie Cultural Club as well as a member of The Lord’s Club, Nnewi Union, and People’s Club of Nigeria.
Upon retirement, He spent most of his time with his family until he was called to glory on October 25, 2024.
Isi-Ichie Fabian Ugonna Okeke is survived by his wife, Joan “Ojiugo” Okeke, his children: Amaka, Irene, Nancy, and Kennedy Okeke; his siblings: Ignatus (IG) Okeke, Nnamdi Okeke, Edwin Okeke, and Azuka Okeleke; and his grandchildren: Dubem and Olivia Okeke.
