Floye Bentley Wells, 85, of Richmond, Texas, passed away on February 27, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. A devoted follower of Christ, Floye was a lifelong homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family.
Floye was born on March 9, 1939, along with her identical twin sister, Mignyonne, on a 30-acre cotton farm in Kleberg County, Texas, just southwest of Kingsville. She was the daughter of Era Louis McTaggart and Fannie Clementine (Lea) McTaggart. Her mother often recalled how cars lined their rural road after the twins’ birth, as it was considered a rare blessing in 1939.
She attended Ricardo High School and later took classes at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. On May 2, 1959, she married Ralph Howard Bentley at the Naval Air Station in Kingsville, Texas.
In her later years, Floye lived in Richmond, Texas, with her daughter Barbara Naiser. Together, they enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles, cooking, dining out, and attending community events and concerts. Floye also loved studying the Bible, listening to gospel music, and following Court TV cases from start to finish, often sharing interesting developments with Barbara when she returned home from work. She continued crocheting afghans for loved ones and had one in progress at the time of her passing, which her eldest daughter, Tina, will cherish—and perhaps finish one day.
Floye was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Howard Bentley (2004), and her second husband, Charles Edward Wells (2021). She was also preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings: Edwina Poland, Mignyonne Kyle, David McTaggart, Emma Jean Schneider, Ernestine Hoff, and Charlotte Swoboda.
She is survived by her three children: Tina Bentley Davis (husband Al Davis), Barbara Bentley Naiser (partner Adam Marks), and Derek Howard Bentley. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn McTaggart Bonikowski, and her cherished grandchildren, Brandon Bentley Naiser (fiancé Katie Abelar) and Savannah Alexandria Bentley.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, providers, and staff at Sugar Land Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care. They also deeply appreciate the love and support extended by family and friends during this time.
