He was born on January 1, 1953 in Harvey, Illinois to Elmer and Edith Sobol.
He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Frank spent his career in the petroleum industry as a geologist working for Core Laboratory, Amoco, British Petroleum, Burlington Resources, and Conoco Phillips both domestically and internationally. He was a member of Houston's First Baptist Church and The Difference Life Bible Study. Frank loved music and singing and was a member of the church choir for years until he was not physically able to sing. He enjoyed traveling with his family to explore the beauty and history of our country and countries in Europe, in the Caribbean, as well as those of Israel, India, and Egypt. He enjoyed exploring; we have many treasured memories of him stopping along roadways and at spots he knew of to wonder at rocks and fossils with us.
Overall, he treasured beautiful things. One of his favorite Christmas movies was the classic "It's a Wonderful Life," which teaches us to treasure the world and people around us, even if it means trying again after having failed. He did a wonderful job of modeling to his children how to stand amazed at the stars and other wonders that God created, a legacy that he continues to pass on to his grandchildren, whom he loved to elicit giggles and smiles from.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Elmer Arthur Sobol and Edith DeVries Sobol as well as his brother, Ronald Arthur Sobol, and his sister, Karen Beth Morris and her husband, Douglas Morris. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Suzanne Spinks Sobol as well as their daughters, Elizabeth Anne and her husband, Andrew Smith, and Victoria Suzanne and her husband, Rinku (Reuben) Masih. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Micah Emmitt, Caleb Thomas, Abigail Cade, and Andrew James Smith and Baby Masih as well as his sister, Kim and her husband, Mark Mize, his aunt Kathy Rowley and her husband Russell, his uncle Henry DeVries and his wife Adrienne, his niece Kristine Mize-Spansky and husband Matt, his niece Amanda Donatelli and husband Mario, his nephew Matthew Morris and wife Michelle, his nephew Jeremiah Mize, his sister-in-law Lynda Spinks and other relatives and friends.
