Fusae Mehta

FUSAE “LINA” OTSUKA MEHTA, age 70, of Houston Texas, died peacefully in her home surrounded by family at 10:10am on October 31, 2016. She was born on October 19, 1946 in Tokyo, Japan. A loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, Fusae is survived by her beloved husband Shalin R. Mehta, children Yash Mehta and Mona Mehta, her brother Seiji Otsuka, sisters Michiko Yamazaki and Mieko Otsuka. Fusae is predeceased by her brother, her father Makoto Otsuka and her mother Yoshie Kikuchi Otsuka. Mom was a devoted to her family in every way. Fusae was a very strong woman who bravely fought to overcome a battle with liver disease for many years. Over the last month of her life, she fought courageously in the ICU while waiting for a liver transplant. Throughout her illness, her husband, Shalin and children were always by her side. Shalin and Fusae were married for 44 years and loved each other very much. They were best friends and she was always grateful to Shalin for taking care of her, even if he didn’t always take her advice. Fusae was known for her generous spirit, constant grace and immense love for her family. She always greeted her family and friends with a warm smile and an offer of a snack or meal. She was a lover of art and music. She dabbled in painting, flower arranging and teaching Japanese over the years. She was always active and never a homebody when her health and energy permitted. Fusae will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Although our hearts are heavy with grief, we know she is at peace. We find solace in knowing she is no longer suffering and passed the way she wanted. Fusae, in her humble nature, asked that we not have a memorial service.
