

George Hayden Bruce, 89, went to his eternal rest on September 1, 2012. George was born on April 19, 1923 in Toyah, Texas. After serving in the Army Air Corps in Italy during WW II, he obtained a BS degree in Physics from the University of Texas Austin in 1949. He was married to Kay (Dickinson) Bruce on August 25, 1951 and they began their life together in Houston. He had a long career in the oil production industry with Humble, Esso and Triton, consulting worldwide in offshore drilling. He was a distinguished lecturer and editor for the Society of Petroleum Engineers for many years. George was active in his community with the PTA and local Republican Party and a generous supporter of the University of Texas, art, natural history museums, the 100 Club and other charities. He was a deacon and taught third grade Sunday School at Willow Meadows Baptist Church. He traveled both for pleasure and business, visiting over 35 countries, including every continent, except Antarctica. He loved hunting, fishing, cooking, reading and crossword puzzles. His joy in learning and his work ethic were an example to all around him. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kay and his brother, Clifford Bruce. He is survived by his daughters, Kathie Bruce, Ann Wendland and husband, Mike: grandchildren, Kate Feuge and husband, Ryan, Keith Wendland and wife, Brandy, Kelly Wendland and Austin Bruce; great-grandchildren, Avery Wendland and Brooke Feuge; a niece, four nephews, cousins, and two sisters-in-law. A Visitation will be held at 1 PM followed by a Memorial Service and reception at 2 PM on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Willow Meadows Baptist Church, 4300 Bellfort, Houston, Texas. A private, family interment; will follow. In memory of George, the family would appreciate flowers or donations to the charity of your choice .
