George Lawrence Roberts, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 86 years old.
Born on January 10, 1939, in Houston, Texas, to John Charles Roberts and Dora Marie Peltier Roberts, George was raised in the Heights neighborhood and later attended St. Thomas High School. He went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps before he began his business career.
George was a visionary entrepreneur and leader. He co-founded the first Fischer's Auto Parts store and, through years of hard work and unwavering dedication, helped grow it into a successful business. Later, he developed an interest in stock trading and watching the markets. Throughout his career, George was a generous mentor to many - helping employees, friends, and family grow their own careers with his guidance, support, and belief in their potential. His legacy as a businessman and mentor continues to live on in the lives and achievements of those he inspired.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Olivia Roberts, who brought him deep joy and companionship over the years. He leaves behind his loving children: Debra Lowe (Drew), Deanna Mayeaux-Perkins (Jim), Laura Chambers (Harry), and Kenneth Roberts. He also leaves behind his brothers Walter "Butch" Roberts (Christina) and Thomas J. Roberts (Joyce), who remained close to him throughout his life. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Jason Mayeaux, Jennifer Skaife, Stephanie Kennedy, Kim Wright, Amy Pass, Ashley Schmidt, Harry R. Chambers, George Chambers, and Robert Chambers, along with thirteen treasured great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
George is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Roberts; his daughter Karen Wright; his parents, John and Dora Roberts; and siblings Dorothy Fischer (Jim), Rev. E. Arthur Roberts, John Roberts (Sally), Mary Ann Mack (Jim), James Roberts (Mary and Ola Mae), Bill Roberts (Lena), and son-in-law Howard Mayeaux.
George enjoyed spending time at his ranch in Yorktown, Texas, and was an active hunter and fisherman. In his earlier years, he enjoyed scuba diving and loved traveling domestically and internationally. Regardless of what George was doing, his Catholic Faith remained constant. He was a devoted member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, attending Mass every Sunday.
George had a natural gift for connection - he loved good conversation, always had a story to share, and made people feel welcome wherever he went.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Minda and Lucy, and their teams of compassionate caregivers for the dedicated and loving care they provided in George's final days.
