George Salem Shamieh, age 70, of Houston, Texas, passed away on October 1, 2025. He was born in Ramallah, Jordan on March 11, 1955 to parents Salem and Malvina George. He came to America a year later. George grew up and lived in Houston, Texas and went to Sam Houston High School, and then to University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business.
George had a zest for life and was involved in many groups and activities. 28 years ago, he cofounded and facilitated a discussion group to discuss issues related to Palestine and Israel. It included friends and colleagues from both sides. George scheduled meetings, arranged luncheon locations and researched the latest news and information to propose discussion topics. He was passionate about this cause and made many long time friends there before he retired his role.
George was a faithful member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years.
For several years, George also facilitated and led Recovery Support Groups for those living with Mental Illness. George was also an active attendee at Stammtisch, where he would gather with friends and acquaintances and practice speaking German and socialize. George never met a stranger and was so interested in the lives of others. He made it a mission to keep in touch with so many friends and relatives from all over the world. He was a connector of people.
George lived more than half his life with serious mental illness, but was steadfast about his health and was able to live a beautiful, independent and full life. He was a pro at managing his meds and tending to his health. Over the last two to three years, the cumulative challenges became harder to manage for him and eventually was too much for his mind and body to handle. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded with loving support from friends and family.
George is preceded in death by parents Salem and Malvina George. He is survived by: Siblings Susan Luck and Walter Luck (husband), Rima George, Sylvia Liner, and Rhonda George. Nephews: John Luck and wife Nicole Luck, Stephen Luck, Christopher Liner and niece Grace Liner. Great Nephews: Colin Luck and Noah Luck.
