George was a lifelong Houstonian who attended St. Thomas High School and ultimately graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1951. George proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Flight Engineer from 1952 through 1967. After leaving the United States Air Force, he was employed by TRW Mission Manufacturing Company where he retired after 25 years of service. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where he served as a lector and eucharistic minister for many years.
George was preceded in death by his father, John George Spanos from Greece and his mother, Nellie Welcherk from Houston. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Ross and Elaine Spanos and his nephew John D. Pederson. He is survived by his wife, Rena Marie Spanos and his sister, Sr. Helen Spanos, his three sons, John Spanos and his wife, Teri, Joe Spanos and his wife, Christi, Frank Spanos and his wife, Stacy, six grandchildren and brother in law, Frank Dames.
Serving as pallbearers are Anthony Alvarez, Gerald Garcia, Rick Saldana, Michael DeForke, Nicholas Spedale and A. J. Benys.
Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 26 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman Street, Houston, TX 77018. The Rite of Committal will Follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
