
Jerry was born on September 1, 1938, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Norbert Louis and Eva Gump Huguenard. He graduated from North Side High School in Fort Wayne and attended Purdue University at Fort Wayne receiving a degree in Construction Technology. Upon graduation, he went to work as a city engineer for the City of Fort Wayne and over the next five decades dedicated his professional career to the ownership and management of several commercial construction firms located in Fort Wayne and Houston. In the early part of his career, his construction firm built numerous public works projects, including the construction of public schools, public libraries, special needs facilities, university buildings, state park facilities as well as numerous private projects. In the latter part of his career, he spent several decades in Houston involved in the construction of numerous office buildings, retail centers, hotels, banks, auto dealerships and other building projects. He left his mark on many projects located throughout the city of Houston.
Jerry was involved in several professional and community organizations including the Associated General Contractors, Rotary Club, was a Life Member and Committeeman of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
Jerry’s commitment to excellence in his profession was only surpassed by his love for his family. His loyal devotion to his wife, Joyce, as well as his children and grandchildren was beyond measure. He was a man with an abiding faith in the Lord who demonstrated this every day with kindness, humility, civility, and principle. He lived a life of honor.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and being outdoors. On many days, Jerry could be found taking his beloved dogs on lengthy walks. He especially enjoyed his sailboat spending many hours boating on Lake James in Indiana where his family kept a cottage. Jerry was also an avid football fan, closely following the Purdue Boilermakers. His devotion to college football expanded to include a loyalty to Texas schools where his children and grandchildren attended.
Jerry’s parents preceded him in death, as did his wife of many decades, Joyce, his son, Gregory Huguenard, and brother, Ronald Huguenard. Jerry is survived by his children: Susan Udell; James Huguenard, and wife Terri; Sonja Walls; Stephny Pappas, and husband Chris. Jerry is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Ryan Huguenard, Lindsay Huguenard, Gregory Ludwiski, Erika Stephens, Ashley Udell-Byal, Daniel Udell, Harris Huguenard, Hannah Huguenard, Carson Huguenard, Trevor Adams, Sasha Adams, Parker Adams, Clayton Pappas, and Sophia Pappas, and 9 cherished great grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held in celebration of his life.
