

Services for Geraldine C. Maxey Childers, age 89, of Houston/ Cypress, Texas, will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Pat H. Foley & Co. Funeral Home, 1200 W. 34th Street, Houston, Texas 77018 with Pastor Roger DeWitt officiating.
Burial will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, Texas 77060.
Geraldine (Jerry) passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Grace Care Center Northpointe in Tomball, Texas.
She was born December 7, 1927 in Houston, Texas to Lester P. and Gladys Mallet.
Jerry graduated from Aldine High School in 1945.
After attending business school, Jerry married Joe Maxey in 1946, and held a position with American General Insurance Company for several years. She then acquired a position in the Trust Department with Texas Commerce Bank that later became JP Morgan Chase Bank. Jerry remained with Chase Bank for over 20 years, retiring in 1989. While employed at the bank, Jerry loved and enjoyed singing in the annual 100 Voice Christmas Choir.
Jerry relished many interests in her life. She took special delight involved with outdoor activities, including hunting, gardening, and trail rides. From 1958 through 1968, she, her husband Joe, and son Les participated in the Salt Grass and Tejas Trail Rides leading to the Livestock Show and Rodeo in Houston. Jerry was widowed in 1976 when Joe suddenly passed away.
Traveling was another of Jerry’s loves. After retirement, she and husband John, who she married in 1978, covered a lot of territory including California and parts of the Southwest States. Together they took out on adventures of the Great Northwest, Montana, The Dakotas and traveling even into Canada. At home, Jerry was fond of working in a large garden, growing a variety of fresh vegetables and sharing with family and friends. Jerry lost John with his passing in 2006.
Jerry was a selfless caregiver to several loved ones. She loved people, was concerned about their comfort, and in return was loved and appreciated by many. She looked forward to big family gatherings and any occasion for an opportunity to dress up for a party. She absolutely loved her glitter and bling. A dear and near one recently stated, “Jerry was a unique lady, smart and usually informed on a multitude of subjects, interested in others, and enjoyed joking and laughing”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester P. and Gladys Mallett, her husband of 30 years, Joe Maxey, his son, JC Maxey and wife Billie, and granddaughter, Phyllis Maxey Head, John Debs Childers, her husband of 28 years, his daughter Johnnie Marie and son in law, Buster Nelson.
Jerry is survived by her loving family including son, Lester E. Maxey and wife Gayle, grandchildren Jeff Harris and wife Kim, Jimmy Harris and wife Sandra, Merinda Maxey Stafford, Allen Maxey and wife Melissa, and Joe Maxey and wife Kristen, 12 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
She is also survived by her cherished sister Audrey Halbert of Teague, Texas and a number of beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Allen Maxey, Joe Maxey, Colby Harris, Taylor Wilcox, Hayden Harris, and Chase Cornman.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00PM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 immediately followed by her services at Pat H. Foley & Co. Funeral Home.
