On May 7, 2020, God chose to bring His Good and Faithful Servant Geraldine M. Owens home to eternal rest. Affectionately known as “Jeri” and “Nani”, she was born to Mercedes Williams and Abner McMillan on November 3, 1940, in Weimar, Texas. She accepted Christ at an early age and was known for leading solo’s in the choir at Mt. Arie MBC, Weimar, Texas. She attended Karl Downs High School, where she exceled in academics, basketball and track. She was an honor student. After high school graduation, Geraldine moved to Houston, Texas where she later attended Alvin Community College, and obtained her LVN license. She then returned to obtain her Registered Nurse License. Jeri served her country in the Army Reserve from 1974 -1986 as an RN, and she was Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant First Class in December 1986. Throughout her nursing career, she worked for many oil and gas companies, Cameron Iron Works, HL&P (Reliant), and the City of Houston Health Department as an OCHN-RN. She was truly a nurse at heart, not only in her professional field, but in her neighborhood - Riverwood Estates, where she was often called the "neighborhood nurse". She retired early from the City of Houston as an RN, to care for her great-granddaughter, Sanaa.
Our mother absolutely loved bowling, and she traveled throughout the USA to compete in bowling tournaments. She won many trophies throughout her bowling adventures. Another passion of hers was the Servants of Christ Prison Ministry. Among many other things, she loved going to the casinos/game-room, playing bingo, reading and writing poems and MOST of all, reading her Bible. During her life, she never met a stranger and befriended everyone. She served faithfully at Calvary Way MBC, under the leadership of Pastor Lewis. She loved her church family.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, S.P. Owens, her parents, son Christopher R. Johnson, Sr. and daughter Roshanda Baker-Hawkins.
