Gerri was born on March 10, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, to Woodrow and Opal (Anderson) Wolf. She and her brothers spent their early childhood in Gold Hill, Oregon, until the unexpected death of her father in 1944. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas, to be closer to her mother’s family.
Gerri and her brother Tommy loved to play and explore, and on one of those adventures they met a taxi driver named Kenneth Kretzinger. A friendship developed, and they introduced him to their mother. In 1950, Opal and Kenneth were married, and he became the devoted father of the three children.
Following the oil boom, the family eventually settled in Monahans, Texas, where Gerri gave her life to Christ at an early age. She attended Monahans High School and was an active member of Monahans Baptist Church, now known as Bethel Baptist Church. Through her church youth group, she formed lifelong friendships with Annabel and Mary Sue Redmon, who introduced her to their brother, Raymond "Ray".
Gerri and Ray were high school sweethearts and were married in 1957, beginning a lifelong adventure together. Ray’s service in the U.S. Army took them around the world to various posts. After his discharge, they moved to Springfield, Missouri, where Ray attended Baptist Bible College.
Gerri faithfully served as a pastor’s wife in churches in Grove, Oklahoma; Lubbock, Texas; and Carlsbad, New Mexico. In 1971, after receiving God’s call to the mission field, they resigned the pastorate and returned to Springfield to complete missions training. In 1973, Gerri followed her husband on a new adventure to South Korea, where they spent the next 47 years sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, planting churches, and training men and women to serve the Lord.
During their years in Korea, Gerri was active in Bible Study Fellowship and formed friendships that spanned time and distance. She did social work in the village, joyfully supported young couples as they married, and was always ready to help those in need. She loved weddings, babies, and serving others. It was not uncommon for her to visit orphanages to love on babies and small children who had no family.
In 2017 they returned to the US and settled in Katy, Texas with their daughters. Gerri joined the crochet circle at their church where she made baby blankets for the pregnancy center. It was a common sight to see her in her rocking chair surrounded by fabric, yarn, a stack of finished blankets, and a package of Golden Oreos.
Gerri loved to grow flowers, cook, bake, sew, crochet, scrapbook, play games, and had an exceptional love for photography. She was well known for making the best Christmas candy—especially chocolate-covered cherries and peanut brittle—in all of Korea. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, watching Wheel of Fortune, drinking ginger tea, sharing a sweet dessert with her son-in-law, and spending time with her family. Above all, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was always ready with a gospel tract or a New Testament Bible for those that needed to hear about her Savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Opal Kretzinger; two daughters, Becky Chase and Karri Schneider; and two brothers, Tom Kretzinger and Kenneth Kretzinger II.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ray Redmon; one daughter, Tena Crenshaw (Greg); and one daughter of her heart, Yeonhee Chung (Seong Tae), and one brother, Robert Kretzinger (Trudy). She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Luther Chase (Dunia), Jerod Chase (Crystal), Raelynn Chase, Kyle Crenshaw (Laurin), Bradley Crenshaw (Jamie), Nicolas Crenshaw, Dylan Schneider (Kelsey), and Rylee Schneider; ten great-grandchildren: Rosalind, Azalia, Benjamin, Jaelynn, London, Josie, Lucas, Addison, Korben, and Finn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by countless spiritual children and grandchildren whom she loved deeply.
While she will be greatly missed, we take comfort in God’s promise of eternal life and in a life well lived for Christ.
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” - 1 Corinthians 2:9
