Gregory Farleigh (Bear) Samuel, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and best-friend/confidant to so many, ascended to heaven on November 10th, 2015. Greg was truly larger than life in so many ways, truly a participant in life, not a watcher!
Greg was born on the joyous day of our Lord, July, 20, 1990 into a loving family-his Dad, Ralph, his mother Elizabeth, and his two role model brothers, Sean, and Nick. Growing up, Greg was part of a family unit that spent a lot of time together-whether it was family outings, vacations that included days upon days driving, camping, visiting amusement parks, and having fun across the United States, school events, sporting events, or just hanging.
The three brothers were inseparable, and the love that they had for each other was always on plain display for everyone to see. Greg was a cub scout, boy scout, a participant in lots of church activities, and community events, always giving 110%, and doing his best. Greg participated in most all sports, particularly excelling in Football, he was a valuable member of all of his school teams since the 7th grade, including being on the Varsity Football team at Klein High School, playing both offensive, and defensive linemen in the same game. Greg also played baseball, and basketball for many years on teams with his brother Nick, coached by his Dad, and of course, his Mom was Team Mom on all of those teams. Greg was on the Varsity Track and Field team (Shot Put) at Klein H.S. as well. Greg overcame a lot of injuries and breaks over the years, because he always went 110%, that didn't stop him from being graded as one of the very strongest of all of the athletes at Klein in most of the measurables.
Greg was an extremely talented entertainer and musician, playing guitar since he was 6 years old, and fronting a couple of rock bands-playing the guitar, and singing (he was a very unique, distinctive, singer). He could play most any classic rock ballad by ear. Greg was a gifted song writer, perfecting his songs, lyrics and vocals with his Mom, a talented musician in her own right.
Greg was the face of the dealership/ media spokesman for the family's 2 car dealerships, working with his Dad in a variety of tasks, in this role, Greg created the role of the "Dealbuster", starring in and co-scripting, all of their TV Commercials, Billboards, and other advertisements since he was 16 years old, he starred in over 80 TV commercials over the years, some including celebrities, such as Vince Neil of Motley Crue (they jammed in this commercial, and Greg seemed to have had the best licks!). One of Greg's TV commercials was a spoof of Blake Griffin jumping over the car, and slam dunking - Greg did it -- later at a car dealer event that Greg attended with his Dad, he met Blake Griffin, and Greg and Blake went at it on whose spot was better-they agreed to disagree! Greg, and the dealership, have won multiple awards for his advertising in recent years, including: Automotive Marketer of the Year, Best Billboards, Best Newspaper ad, and the 2014 Best TV Commercial in Houston (for the 2nd time) Recently, Greg met Sting, and his guitar hero Slash, he was pumped Slash spent some quality time with him.
Greg has split his time recently between Houston, and California, working on his entertainment career, hanging in Pasadena, Venice Beach (which he was particularly fond of), and his Aunt Dale and Uncle Kevin's home in Beverly Hills. We always knew that Greg was a great boy, a great person, a great son, a great brother-the last couple of days, we have learned just how great of a man that Greg was through the amazing outpour of love and admiration that we have witnessed from so many of his friends, the stories of what Greg meant to them, and the impact that he had on them, including two families that have reached out and said that Greg was instrumental in saving their child's life, Greg was truly an Angel on Earth, called to Heaven early by the Lord!
Greg is survived by his beautiful mother Elizabeth, his father: Ralph, his brothers: Nick and Sean, Grandparents: Paul and Barbara Frederick, and Charlotte Becham, Aunts: Dale Lipton, Aline England, Uncles: Kevin Lipton, Cliff England and many loving cousins. Greg is proceeded into Heaven by his Grandparents: Henry Ralph Farley, Janice Frederick, John Samuel, his Aunts: Charlotte Farley Lorentz, Jeanne Frederick Haas, Debbie Burlison, and his Uncle David Frederick. Greg definitely packed a life time of living in his 25 wonderful years, he will always be loved, and cherished.
A celebration of Greg's amazing life will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Frwy Houston, TX 77079 on Wednesday, November 18th at 3 pm. This will be a day befitting his tremendous heart, soul, and spirit.
