

Gwendolyn L. Thompson was born September 17, 1954 to the late Burnette Clay and Gus Woodson, Sr. She grew up in Baytown, Texas where she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. Upon graduation she attended Texas Southern University. She was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Baytown, Texas until she moved to Houston.
Gwen met Craig when she was twenty-two years old and they married September 1, 1977. They have one son, Bryan Beaty (daughter-in-love Annette), and one grandson, Devyn.
Gwen began her career in Houston, Texas at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as a secretary for Lockheed Martin Corporation at the Johnson Space Center. Gwen expanded her career by completing computer technology courses and working as a Senior Computer Operator for NASA’s mainframe computer systems. Gwen retired from Lockheed Martin at Johnson Space Center in 2005. To keep busy she began a career with Securitas Security at Texas Children’s Hospital where she excelled in her job and was loved by management and all coworkers.
Gwen joined Covenant of Faith United Methodist Church under the leadership of Reverend Luthur G. Walker where she served faithfully. She loved family gatherings and assisting her mother in preparing holiday feasts, along with her sisters. She enjoyed fun and games, with family and friends, during the festivities. She liked shopping for the family, especially her beloved grandson, Devyn. One of her favorite pastimes was talking on the phone daily with some of her closest confidants: Bryan, Annette, Sharon, Courtney, Tierra and her beloved friends.
Gwen is preceded in death by her mother, Burnett Barnett Clay; father, Gus Woodson, Sr.; father-in-law Douglas Spivey, brother Warren Clay, Jr., sister, Annette Woodson; and sister-in-law Eleanor Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her memory husband, Craig Thompson; son, Bryan Beaty (wife Annette); grandson, Devyn Beaty; sisters, Sharon Barnes, Cynthia Smith (husband Danny), and Debra Clay; mother-in-law, Margaret Spivey; sister-in-law, Lesa Spivey; brothers-in-law, Otto Thompson, Calvin Darnell (wife Gwen); goddaughter/niece Krystal Clay; special nieces Tierra Charles and Courtney Barnes and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
