HARLAN EMORY KENT, 83, loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, passed away April 8, 2013, in Houston,TX. Born August 30, 1929, in Burkburnett, Texas, to the late Emory Gordon Kent and Edna Lucille Potthoff Kent, he attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Harlan lived in Venezuela from 1948 until he was transferred to Houston in 1969. He was employed by Gulf Oil Corporation for more than 35 years. He met his wife, Joyce Frymire Kent, in Maracaibo where she taught at Escuela Bella Vista; he was married to her from 1957 until she passed away in 2008. Mr. Kent was also preceded in death by his beloved daughter Joanne Kent Burns. He is survived by his sons, John Kent, James Kent and his wife Jill and their sons Taylor and Dillon, Tom Kent and his wife Michele, their son Thomas and daughter Lauren; son-in-law Chris Burns and his daughter Emma. A celebration of Harlan Kent’s life will be at 10 a.m., Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, 13001 Katy Freeway. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harlan Kent’s memory may be made to the American Lung Association.
