It is with profound sadness that we announce our father's passing on July 7, 2017. Harmohinder S. Bhatia, M.D., FACC, FACL, FSCAI. Our father, will always be remembered as being a generous, loving and dedicated father. Professionally, he was an exceptional cardiologist in Northwest Houston where he first began his practice in 1979.
He is survived by his son, Paul (Alejandra) and grandchildren, Catherine Victoria, Gabriel, Mateo and son, Josh (Amy) with grandchildren, Liam Cole Singh, Owen James Singh and Evie Lynne Marie. He is also survived by one brother, Jatinder (Simi) and a niece, Minni, and nephew Nikku. He leaves many friends and a fraternity of brothers from his medical school as well as his beloved dog, Buda.
He received his medical degree from Christian Medical College Ludhiana in 1970.
Dr. Bhatia earned his Fellowships in Cardiology as marks of distinction attesting to his character, ethics and his personal excellence in his practice of cardiology.
Along with Dr. Bhatia's stellar academic achievements, our father was a gifted doctor who possessed a great love, compassion and kindness for his patients. He never refused a patient who could not afford proper care. Care was always provided unconditionally for those in need. This is how we knew our father. He saved people’s lives.
Dr. Bhatia was the Founder of Houston Northwest Medical Center. He worked alone, day and night for five years until he took on his first associate.
Our father also loved to play golf. He was a joy to play with because he simply enjoyed playing the game with his friends and sons. He rarely kept score, rarely followed the rules and always had a great time.
He never told a joke that he, himself, didn't find funny. So he laughed, often. His wit was sharp and his smile infectious.
Dr. Bhatia was a voracious reader and could hold conversations on a variety of subjects. He was fascinated by the universe, the laws of physics, politics, history, automobiles and much more. Speaking with him was meaningful.
The truest thing we can write about our father is that he touched so many people's lives that this world is now a better place for his passionate service to humanity.
Dr. Bhatia will be missed and his absence will always be felt.
