

Harold M. Summerlin, Jr. died peacefully with his family by his side on September 5, 2014 at the Houston Hospice after a courageous 15 year battle with Parkinsons. Harold was born on July 12, 1942 in Taylor, Texas and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Summerlin, Sr. of Thorndale, Texas. He graduated from Thorndale High School in 1960 and received his B.A. from Sam Houston State University in 1964. Harold worked at Baylor College of Medicine for several years after his graduation from college. In 1976, he accepted a job as a safety engineer at CNA and worked there for over thirty years until his retirement in 2009. Harold will be remembered by his family and friends for his friendly, kind, and humorous personality, his smile and work ethic, and for his loyalty and devotion to family. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lue Summerlin; son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Katherine Summerlin; granddaughter, Ava Summerlin; brother and wife, Giles Summerlin and Evelyn; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Reno and Linda Hartfiel. He will be dearly missed by his entire family, which also includes two nieces and their husbands, Dennis and Charlotte Tonsor, and Bryan and Melinda O’Sullivan; three nephews: Brandon Hartfiel, Heath Hartfiel, Derek Hartfiel and his wife, Melissa; along with numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews, and friends.
