I just learned of Ms. Helen's passing. I am so sorry for the family's loss. I lived next door to Ms. Helen for most of my life. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She was always very kind to me and my family. I will miss her!

My mom is a special person and  I cherish the moments that we spent together. I cherish the moment when I woke up  in the middle of the night to  help feed  my baby sister who was born on January the 11 1963 and my mom passed away January 10 2015 I will miss my mom and love her always


Aunt Helen was a women of grace,love, dignity, humor, intelligence,integrity, faith,honesty, a fierce defender and protector of those she loved! She has always been someone I have always aspired to be like. she gave me the gift of having a wonderful role model to immolate!  
Aunt Helen is my great Aunt and she truly was a "Great" Aunt! I count myself blessed to have been able to spend a lot of time during my childhood up to my young adulthood with her considering the distance between Florida and Texas. She always had a way of making you feel special and loved when you were in her presence, and when she need to help you see a error in your ways she would do it with a twinkle in her eyes, little smile on her beautiful face and so much love you did not know that you had been set straight or at-least did not mind it as much! My Heart is so full of love and memories of this amazing women we were blessed to call Aunt the I could go on for a while! I am sure after her amazing welcome Party when she arrived in glory she heard a very loving voice say " well done good and faithful servant"! 
My heart and love is with Uncle Gerry and the entire Texas Family as you celebrate and process the life of our treasured Aunt Helen.

Memorial to Aunt Helen

My first memory of Aunt Helen was in 1955. I was 11 years old and my father and I traveled from Connecticut down to Florida to pick up my grandmother Barriere's car which my father would then drive to California for her. Aunt Helen was staying at a small motel with the twins Karen and Kathy who were about four or five years old at the time. Those twins were beautiful and sweet natured and I loved them on site! It's easy to see now, why those twins were so sweet natured. Their mother, my aunt Helen was such a sweet natured, loving and welcoming person. I wanted to go home with her.??  Of course 11-year-old children don't get to make those kinds of decisions so off I went to California with Dad. (It was many years before I saw Aunt Helen again, but she was never forgotten.)  In California I spent a great deal of time with my cousin Vernajean, (and her beautiful babies), Aunt Addie's daughter and some time with my cousin Joe, Addie and uncle Jack Teagarden's son. I also met my Uncle Bud there and remember with love and affection His gentle and sweet welcoming ways which meant a lot to a young girl who had just been relocated away from everyone she knew.  I hadn't yet met his daughters cousins Connie and Cathy but could see by the way he talked about them how much he loved them and missed them, telling me how beautiful and smart they both were. It was obvious how very proud he was of them. I got to spend a short but precious time with Grandma Barriere too, who, not surprisingly, gave me my first cooking lesson there! It's no wonder all us Barriere descendants are terrific cooks, starting with Grandma who started a restaurant so she could feed her family during the Depression.  Her famous barbecue sauce recipe is still being passed down to each new generation.

Since I was raised by my father and his family, I lost touch with my mother's family for many years. My mother died when I was only two years old and so I naturally had a strong desire to get to know her family. Aunt Addie, Aunt Helen, Vernajean and I met in Miami for a week.  Aunt Helen was living in Houston, Texas, raising three children with uncle Jerry, (they had Linda by then), and holding down a full-time job. But, when aunt Addie called her from Miami to say I was coming down to see her, aunt Helen just dropped everything on poor uncle Gerry and came to Florida. What a reunion! I learned about my family history. What I finally figured out after a long while is that Aunt Helen was a pioneer in the truest sense of the word, fighting for the rights of her children to get a good education through the Board of Education, getting all of their health needs met through insurance companies who didn't want to cooperate and anyone else that got in Aunt Helen's way in the raising and loving of her children. She was smart and creative and tough when she needed to be. She was also gentle and loving and kind. I don't know about all of her accomplishments during her life but I do know that she was talented, singing with the Sweet Adeline's for many years, kept a beautiful home, worked a full time job and always found time for anyone, family or friends who may have needed her.  She centered her life around God and her church. Her devotion to serving Him throughout her life was an example to us all.

When Aunt Addie needed me to help her with something and I was hesitant to go right at that time it was Aunt Helen who called me and said "now you skedaddle on down there and help your Aunt Addie".  No one could say 'no' to Aunt Helen. No one wanted to.

When I married in 1990, I wanted Richard to meet my mother's family so I traveled to Florida first and then to Texas so he could meet Aunt Helen and uncle Jerry. That's when I met my cousin Cathy (my Love Muffin) and Linda for the first time.  Cathy got me together later with beautiful cousins Connie & Karen.  What Joy!  I was regaled with stories of Helen's influence in their lives, but by then, was not surprised. 

Aunt Helen was funny, always finding it easy to laugh at herself. It was impossible to be around her and not smile.  Over the years every cousin in our family has told me how Aunt Helen had touched their lives offering love and care when they need it most.  

As I said before aunt Helen was a very strong woman and when her daughter Linda became ill and then died it really took her down. She has always been devoted to her children and her grandchildren. Tiffany, Linda and David's daughter took on the monumental chore of watching over Aunt Helen and uncle Gerry's needs and affairs over the past couple of years. This young woman has demonstrated great strength and sensitivity and wisdom for one so young. I couldn't be more proud of her or love her more, not only for what she's done for Helen and uncle Jerry but for all of us.  Thank you Honey and God bless you.

What sweet music the Angels must be making today to celebrate Aunt Helen coming home, with my grandparents, mother, aunts and uncles and cousins all greeting her with tears of joy as they lead her to stand before our Lord.  I can see Jesus now wrapping His arms around her and saying "Welcome home Helen, I've been waiting for you"

I miss you already Aunt Helen, and will always love you.

I met Helen when we were at Ranger Insurance, and I never knew a person with a more gentle character.In addition, I represented her in preparing her Will. She is surely in Heaven now.  Perry Archer
