He was married to Jewel Marlene Carter on January 25, 1974. Henry worked in welding and metal fabrication for Eldred Sheet Metal, EPCON, and Park Environmental. Henry had a passion for hunting, fishing, and spending time with family. He loved the Astros baseball team. He played and loved baseball. Henry is preceded by his parents John Alvin Carter Sr. and Elvira Louvilla Carter, his sister Jerry Lynn Carter and brother William "Willie" Carter.

Henry is survived by his wife of 44 years Jewel Marlene Carter; children: Jennifer and Adrienne Carter, Karrie and Danny Porter and Steven Carter; grandchildren: Jacob Bockman, Brittany Lafevor, Travis Hyman, Lexy Ferguson, Elijah Carter-Jackson, Sara Perry, Gabriel Perry, Andrew Perry; siblings: John and Jewel Carter, Kenneth Earl and Diane Carter, Terry Carter, Timothy "Bo" Carter and Laurie Bea and Irving Deiss, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Brookside Funeral Home from 5 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Brookside Funeral Home at 1 pm. with interment to follow in Brookside Memorial Park.
