

Henry Clay Dean, III, born on the 26th of May 1925 in Montgomery, Texas, and passed away in Houston on Sunday, the 3rd of August 2025. He was 100 years of age. Henry’s life was marked by his dedication to his family, his career, and his country.
Henry served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946, participating in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His military service was a significant chapter of his life, demonstrating his commitment and bravery. He embodied the ideals of the “Greatest Generation.”
Following his military service, Henry pursued an education in geology, graduating from The University of Texas in 1949. His career began at Schlumberger in Calgary, Canada, where he met his beloved wife, Jeanne Eleanor Adams. The couple then moved to Houston, where Henry worked for Tenneco Oil & Gas before taking early retirement. With Tenneco, he had stints in Denver, Pittsburg, and Lafayette. Post-Tenneco, Henry worked at Northwinds and concluded his professional journey at EOG.
Throughout his life, Henry was a mentor to many young geologists, admired for his positive attitude and self-discipline. He was member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, where he was deeply involved.
Henry was an avid runner and golfer, logging over 18,000 miles, running until he was 83. His passion for these activities was well-known among his friends and family.
He is survived by his two sons, Henry Clay Dean, IV and wife Sue of Wisconsin; grandchildren, H. Clay Dean, IV and wife Cortney, Collin Dean and wife Amy all of Wisconsin, and Sarah and Collin Neumann of Kentucky; and his son, S. Michael Dean and wife Diane of Houston; grandchildren, Greg Dean and wife,, Meghan, Jeff and Shannon Dean, and Ginny and Kevin Peining all of Houston; along with twelve great- grandchildren.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne; his parents, Henry C. Dean, II and Katherine S. Dean; his sisters, Katy D. Hill, and June Dean; and his niece, June H. Pape.
At age 87, Henry moved to The Buckingham Senior Living Community where he enjoyed many new and old friendships. He was involved on a pool team, grew tomatoes, and was a mentor to new residents. His life was made brighter with his special friendship of many years with Betty Allen, also a resident at The Buckingham.

A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 16th of August, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following all will be invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
Henry’s legacy of mentorship, discipline, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
