It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of our beloved father Henry Okonma, who left us on September 1, 2024 at the age of 84 years old. Surrounded by his loving family and friends in his final moments, he was a man of immense humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. His unwavering spirit will forever be remembered as well as his tremendous passion and service toward others.
Our father, Henry was born on January 15th, 1940 in the Ibusa town of Delta State, Nigeria. His pursuit of education and professional opportunities led him to America in 1975 where he settled in Houston, Texas. He completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Houston and in 1995 obtained his degree in nursing from the University of Texas medical branch in Galveston. He took great pride in his education. His dream of helping others coupled with becoming a business owner led him to establish a hospice facility and emergency medical services.
Eventually, Henry met his beautiful wife Cora who became the love of his life. They shared 52 wonderful years together raising six children. The love they shared carried them through life's trials and tribulations Cora, with such grace, love and patience devoted every day of her life to Henry. The love they shared is truly a treasure beyond measure. It is a love that withstands the test of time and overcomes all obstacles.
Our father, Henry was always an exceptional member of his community. He founded the Ibusa association where he conducted countless meetings in his home discussing issues and concerns involving his community. He led fundraisers that helped the Ibusa people and families in Nigeria. As an elder in the Ibusa association he took pride in leading his people with humanity and integrity.
He is survived by his beautiful wife Cora Okonma. His children Terry Okonma, Harris Okonma, Mercy okonma, Debra Nguyen and Anthony Okonma. As well as his grand children Victor Williams, Jacqueline Nguyen, Janea Nguyen, Terry Okonma and Clarisse Okonma and his great grand baby Nava Williams.
