Ms. Kochman-Scott was born on July 16, 1925 in Berlin, Germany. She grew up in Berlin, and as a young girl, attended the 1936 Olympics and watched Jesse Owens win four gold medals. She lived in Berlin during World War II, endured many hardships and lost many friends. She attended University in Vienna, Austria. She met Bernard Kochman, and they were wed in January 1951 in Berlin, Germany. After a honeymoon in Paris, they emigrated to New York City and settled in Riverdale. During the 1960’s and 1970’s, Ms. Kochman-Scott worked as a bi-lingual legal secretary at a law firm in Manhattan. In the 1980’s, Ms. Kochman-Scott relocated to Houston, Texas, where she remained for the rest of her life. She was very proud of securing her U.S. citizenship in 2000. After Bernard passed, she met Robert Scott of Los Angeles, California, on a cruise through the Panama Canal. Robert moved to Houston and they were subsequently married, and spent 16 years together. She was involved in a number of local charities, serving for many years on the Board of Holly Hall, a Christian retirement community. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and its annual Chic Boutique event.
Ines loved to travel; as a young girl, she traveled extensively throughout Europe. She crossed the Atlantic on the Mauretania, the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth. Later in life, Robert and she took numerous trips, including an African safari and an around-the world cruise. She also loved the arts, regularly attending theater, opera and the symphony.
Ines cherished her cabin on Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, New Hampshire. She spent summers there for the last 55 years; this past July, she was joined at the cabin by her family and some long-time friends to celebrate her 100th birthday. The festivities included daily swims off the dock, long boat rides, a party at the cabin and a day trip with her family on the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad.
Two years ago, Ines relocated to Parkway Place, where she met a number of wonderful people with who she spent time talking about family, travels and life experiences and playing Bingo and Mexican Train. She was grateful for both the community and the kind, supportive staff.
Ms. Kochman-Scott was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bernard and her husband Robert. She leaves behind her sons, Philip J. Kochman (Paula) and Rene Kochman, grandchildren Alison (Joshua, Daniel, Julia), Andrew (Taylor), Justin (Lindsay, Klay) and Alyssa.
The Kochman family would like to give a special thanks to Vantage Hospice and her caregiver – Januah - whom took great care of her in her final days of life.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 27, 2025 in the chapel at Parkway Place, 1321 Park Bayou Dr, Houston, TX 77077.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ines’ name to Holly Hall or that you think of her when you go shopping at the Salvation Army Chic Boutique.
