Iris Evelyn Turner

Iris Evelyn Turner passed away at Compassia Care Center, Porter, Texas, on Thursday evening May 26, 2016, at the age of 91. Born February 19, 1925 in Personville, Texas to William Elmer Henry and Christine Elizabeth Moore was the third of eight children.

Evelyn graduated Mexia High School in 1943 and moved to Dallas, Texas where she met Royce Diamond Turner and exchanged vows in Dallas, Texas on September 4, 1943. They were married 61 years.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Royce, and two grandchildren, Christopher Diamond Turner and Ana Belle Turner, and two brothers and a sister.

Evelyn is survived by her four sons, Gary Wayne Turner of Hockley, TX, Philip Ray Turner of Crosby, TX, Edward Alan Turner of Pearl, TX, and William Brian Turner of Porter, TX, three sisters; Patsy Nell Bonner of Fairfield, TX; Carolyn Joy Poole of Houston; Jo Ann Douglas of Houston; one brother, Carl Elmer Henry of Pine Valley CA; eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

During WWII Evelyn worked in Grand Prairie at the North American Aircraft Mfg. Assembly plant as a Riveter on the P-51 Mustang. Later she balanced responsibilities as a mother and housewife with employment as a Courtesy Booth Operator for Epps and Gerland’s Super Markets in the Northeast Houston area. She also worked at various times for Nabisco, Walgreens and Goodwill Industries.

Evelyn never met a stranger and always had an infectious smile. She loved her family with intense devotion. Her faith in Christ guided her every decision as she prayed daily for those around her. She was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be lovingly remembered by all who met her.

The visitation, funeral and interment will be held at Brookside Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 5-8 p.m. Funeral service will be on Wednesday June 1, 2016 at 2 p.m. with graveside service immediately following. Pastor Carl Lund will officiate.
