It was a couple of weeks before Chief Isidore Ebong passed that I found this picture in my mother's album. My mother is Felicia Silas Obot, a cousin to the Ebongs. I took the picture to my Uncle Isidore Silas Obot who is a friend and relation to the deceased, also named Isidore and who was visiting the US at the time (October). I wanted my uncle to tell me the story behind the picture and he did. I then told my uncle that I wanted Chief Ebong's number as he was now in Houston, TX. We never connected. 
Having left Nigeria in 1975 for the USA, I had some vague memories of the Ebong who were then in Port Harcout, Nigeria. 
When I went home this November, my path crossed with Annastasia and Oliver Ebong.  We hand a couple's dinner at the Shareton IK (see the attached pic).
I have not met Mrs. Isidore Ebong or the children but there is a special bond between the Obot's and the Ebong. Today the celebration of life will begin. My prayers go to the Ebong family. May the Father of all comfort be the one to give you peace in your time of need.

I remember when pops visited in Calabar during our University days. He was really warm and friendly. That was the only time I got to meet him. 

I lost my dad sometime ago and I can assume what the feeling is like for the family. Just be rest assured that his memory will always remain in your hearts.

I pray God Almighty gives Papa Isidore's loved ones, the strength to carry on in love and faith ❤.

I remember, as a kid, going over to the Ebongs and always feeling welcome, like I was at a second home. Uncle Isidor was that kind of person, someone that let others know that they were always welcome. And I know that his soul will continue to spread that energy.

Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the entire Ebong family and especially to Auntie Jo and children and the grandchildren. May the Lord of all Comforts, comfort you and us all, in this sudden departure into eternity, of our beloved Cousin, Engineer,  Chief Isidore Ebong. 
We take comfort from the Scripture:
"Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints. " Psalm 116:16
"Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death." Isaiah 57:2
Cousin Isidore ran and finished his race, he kept the faith, and the crown of righteousness awaits him before the Lord, the Righteous Judge.
While we will miss him on this side of eternity,  we celebrate him and the life he lived on earth.

Dear Sister Jo and family,

It has been very difficult to pen this letter for the simple reason that we all are still in shock and find it unbelievable that Isidore is no more with us. 

It is at a time like this that we reflect on how far we have come together with Isidore. From St. Patrick’s College, Calabar, through ABU, Zaria to Safrap/Elf/Total. From schoolmates to classmates and friends at university, to colleagues at work and then in-laws. The rest, it is said, is history but through it all, God has been with us all. 

Isidore was so vibrant a man, full of life, bold, confident and a very direct person. He never minced words in expressing his opinions. A brilliant mind, with wide knowledge of virtually any subject matter. His opinions were difficult to fault. Oh!, the eagle has flown away and left a huge vacuum behind. We also remember him as an accomplished and artistic craftsman, a gift, which we pray one of his grandchildren will inherit. He created beauty out of wood. The superb beds he made, beautifully crafted, still form a part of our home furnishing after so many years. 

We as a family, mourn with you and pray that the Lord, who in His infinite wisdom deemed it fit to call him away under such unexpected circumstances, strengthens and comforts you all. He alone understands the depth of your sorrow and pain in this great loss. We pray that God helps the family weather this sudden separation... may you all feel God's comfort and tangible presence at this very present time. Though Isidore is no longer physically with us, his spirit lives on, and by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, we all shall be reunited someday in glory.

It shall be well with you and the children, beloved sister Jo. God bless and keep you all.

I am believer that when we loose someone close to us, they continue to live on through us. Your dad was a great inspiration to us all, and he will forever remain in our hearts and memories. It was always comforting to see your warm smile whenever our families got together for occasions.

I'm still struggling to accept your sudden passing, but I hope that you're resting peacefully in God's hands. My heart and prayers remain with your family as they cope with this painful loss. The Ebong family has lost its leader, and your absence is felt deeply. Nonetheless, I'm happy that you lived a multicolored and fulfilling life. 

May God grant you eternal rest, Uncle Isidore.

Etenwan, as I fondly called him, was  a wonderful in- law, just unique and exemplary.
He was always there for the families, church, communities and everyone else and would deliver on his mandate.

He worked selflessly to ensure a successful funeral for my late husband, George.
Thank you so much for everything.

Your work on earth was done.

You will be greatly missed.

I am still in disbelief over this untimely news. Uncle Isidore was a loving father & Uncle as well as a steadfast inspiration to his community at large. I don’t comprehend why the Lord chose now to call him home, but he lives on in the memories of his family, friends and loved ones. I pray God grants the Ebongs the strength to bear this great Loss together. May you rest in Peace Uncle Isidore.
