Isidoro “Izzy” Rojas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at home with his family on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the age of 85. He was born on January 2, 1937 in San Gabriel, Texas to parents Miguel and Cleofas V. Rojas. Izzy was the fifth of eleven children. He joined his family in working the cotton fields for long hours each day. Schooling was secondary to the chores on the farm, and he had to drop out of school in the 9th grade.
He moved to Houston in the early 1950’s. His first job around the age of 16 was in construction as a plumbers & carpenter’s helper. This is how he learned how to add additional rooms, storage sheds, carports, driveways, and bathrooms to every house we ever lived in. He served in the Army during peace time from 1959-1961. Most, of his term was served overseas in Germany and France. He enjoyed the fact that he inadvertently followed Elvis Presley around because everywhere he was stationed at Elvis had just left there.
He met Ana Muñoz in Sharp, Texas during his schooldays and married on October 21, 1962.
Izzy worked in sales merchandising for over 40 years. The love he had for sports was only rivaled by the love he had for his family. He was an avid sports fan and cheered on all the Houston professional teams. He even had season tickets for the Houston Oilers in the 60’s and watched them play in the Astrodome. He cherished spending time with his loved ones and honoring birthdays and holidays with celebratory meals at home. His grandchildren were the joys of his life. He attended many of their dance recitals, soccer games, Tball games, volleyball games, and award ceremonies. His great grandson was the twinkle in his eye, he could put a smile on his face quicker than anyone else.
Izzy was preceded in death by his parents Miguel and Cleofas V. Rojas; beloved great uncle and aunt: Urbano and Maria Rojas; brother Juan Rojas; sisters: Monica R. Corey, Marcelina Martinez, and Elvira Rodriguez; son David Eric Rojas; and granddaughter Felicity Marie Ramirez and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ana (Annie) Muñoz Rojas; son Roland Rojas (Jeff); son Henry Rojas (Norma); daughter Laura Rojas Ramirez; granddaughter Stephanie Ramirez; granddaughter Hilary Acuna (Joshua); grandson Richard Ramirez; great-grandson Christopher Pioquinto; nephew/godson Sonny Corpus; siblings: Flora Arispe (Joe); Jane Silva (Frank); Margaret Corpus; Porfiria Morales; John Rojas; Mike Rojas (Diana); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
