

After growing up in Baytown, and graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, he graduated from Baylor University and Baylor Medical School. He served in the US Navy from 1957-1959 and during that time, cared for not only Navy personnel, but also the civilian population of Guam and other US Territories in the Pacific. Following his military service, he returned to private practice where he cared for Houston families for nearly 40 more years. One of his most memorable moments came when he delivered a baby for a woman who he had delivered twenty-something years before while in Guam.
In 1950, Jack married his high-school sweetheart, Helen Frances Morgan, with whom they had four children Jack, Janet, James and Jay. He married his wife, Helen Harrison Alford in 1973, with whom they had two children, Zoe and Jon, and were married until Helen’s death in August 2008.
Dr. Alford was predeceased by his parents; sister Edna Williams; wife, Helen Harrison Alford; his daughter, Janet Lynn Alford; his father-in-law, Ted L. Harrison; and nephew, Ted W. Harrison.
He is survived by his sons Jack Allen Alford, Jr (wife Barbara), James Steven Alford, Jay Michael Alford (wife Lisa), and Jonathan Adam Alford (wife Veronica) and daughter Zoe Ann Beinart (husband Brad), his grandchildren Steven Alford (wife Jessica), Amy Alford, and David Alford, and great-grandsons Aiden and Hudson Neel. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Diamond Harrison, brother-in-law, Arthur Harrison, nephew, Thomas Harrison, niece, Nia Harrison, niece, Connie Beene and nephew, Jerry Goodson.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with Trisagion prayers at 6:30 pm in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. The funeral service will be Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 11:30 am at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77006. Interment will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77077.
