My most sincere and deepest condolences on the passing of Dr. Key. He was my treating physician dating back to 2012 and just found out he passed. He was my doctor but also became my friend. We always enjoyed visiting when it was time to be seen by him. He was a great guy, nicest human being i had ever met and Heaven definitely gained an Angel. I'm very very sorry to recently hear about your loss. 
Dr. Key was very instrumental in my introduction of medical billing and coding and he was very patient.
He reminded me of my very first doctor I had as a child.
My name is Colerta Benavides and I did various billing for him.

I met Dr. James Key in 2001, he performed my Knee. Neck, and Shoulder surgery. Of the many surgeries I have had since then, I, to this day remember him fondly! He never got paid for any of the medical work that he did (my atty. took the money he, and was to be paid) I wanted to contact my favorite physician and let him know how grateful I still am, and I have just now made efforts to recover the money owed to us, and see to it he was paid.  I have so many funny memories of his treatment -he was just a absolute phenomenal Dr.! I am so sorry for the loss of one who I consider a great orthopedic doctor-No! The best! My heart and prayers are with each and every one of you! I found it a blessing to know he is a pilot and shares my faith in God as well. - As I am at 55, due to his "fixing my issues," am able to pursue my commercial pilot's license. May God bless and be with all of  you! I will always think of you Dr. Key, and see you in Heaven!

Our children were the same ages. We became friends when JD moved from Florida(Nautilus). Jan and I were always the moms with physicion husbands absent. Both Joe McKeever and JD were also military minded and served proudly - on active duty whenever possible! Dr Key was a genius. You could tell his patients on the ortho surgery floor - they had warm up suits or gym attire having shed hospital gowns.  Within often 12 hours of surgery, You were exercising! Dr Joe McKeever, on crutches, flew up and down Meandering Way encouraged by Dr Key to  train again. He had actually run on a broken hip. David Ponsonby along with Dr. Key helped train the figure skaters in my family. Enjoy the freedom now that you are out of  the physical confines!

MY name is Diane Broussard and Dr.Key was my client and friend for over 8 years.It was truly an honor to see him so loving to his wife and children and so friendly with other clients also.Dr.Key loved getting the works,,,haircut...shave....facial...and bring his wife too.We ordered food and watched HGTV while everyone was getting pretty and chatting. The first night I meet James David Key , 1999, was that night when he brought my daughter from my heart. Claudia Rodriguez and since then we've had a great time and amazing conversations relating to his little family and his experiences  going through many battles (Vietnam  war to mention one) another was when he patiently explained me how the human body was connected to the nerve system. In the museum of Art of Houston. That day I ask you a question and  you were so patient with me , my limit English I speak back then ho well, was your reaction when I ask  since you known all of that nerves,  can you tell me where we'll have placed our souls?  then you suddenly  started on me and said,  well! Maggie that answer only God knows I never thought about it! :-( I  am going to miss you  James. Dr. Key!
No worries I will watch your kiddos  and I will give them some advice.  Thanks for the flowers you brought to me back then, you knew it my love for any flower. You did an amazing job, your childrens and Claudia love you and they will miss you. RIP.

I met Dr. James Key about two years ago and he was a very sweet person and  a such a joy to be around with. He will truly be missed. 

JD was also my first cousin - he called Frankie and I the "Florida Keys" - I too didn't get to see him often but when I did, he always filled the room with his presence. When I was very little, the first time I saw him I thought he was a movie star :) Throughout the years, on our rare visits, he made us feel so special. What a gift he had and brilliant surgeon! I had the pleasure of working with him too for many years, as my company transcribed his medical notes. One of the fondest memories I have of JD, is when I was 8 months pregnant, fell down the stairs and broke my toe - he had just arrived for a visit and ended up setting my toes and caring for me at the house. We had such a laugh together. He will always be remembered and cherished by the "Florida Keys" as a dear precious part of our huge family, no matter how far away.  I am so sorry for all of you, his dear children and wife, but know he is not far away and this is truly a temporary separation - you WILL see him again...  Fly strong and free sweet JD, we all love you! 

 JD was my first cousin and very special to me. We did not see each other frequently because I live in Florida, but whenever we did it was full of laughter and the sharing of memories. I have never known anybody quite like him and most likely never will!   He could entertain with stories and the telling of hilarious adventures like nobody I’ve ever talked to. I loved his voice because he sounded so much like my own father, Raymond Key. I miss him even though I didn’t get to see him as often as I’d wish. It was a comfort just  knowing he was there. I pray he is at peace and enjoying the continuation of his journey through the heavens. He left a wonderful legacy and made the world a better place. 

I remember one time there was a bad hurricane about to hit Houston during the school year which my father learned of ahead of time because he was always someone who was prepared. So he got our whole family to stay in Dallas at his house. All of my siblings were glad to be taking a mini vacation, although my dad had other plans and enrolled us in school because he did not want us falling behind in our studies. Looking back I am so grateful for having someone that cared so much for me, he always told me his love was unconditional and never ending. Although he may not be here physical, his presence is still felt and everlasting and will forever hold a permanent place in my heart. The hardest goodbyes are said to the people you care for and love the most. This is the toughest goodbye I have ever had to say in my life so far, but my father is in a better place. Thanks for everything 

Our deepest sympathy for  the family and friends of Dr. Key.  I met him at a family reunion many years ago.  My mother is a Key and I am related to him.   Our  great-grandfathers were brothers.  His line is from Rubin Anderson Key and I am from  Jack Key.  They were brothers.    Our common ancestor is James Jefferson Key of Kisatchie, Louisiana.  I found J.D. Key to be one of the most impressive and intellectual persons I have ever met.    His dual profession as a Medical Doctor and Attorney  represents a bold statement and testament to his talent and abilities.  His military record  also demonstrates  his unselfish devotion to service,  patriotism and  country.   I am thankful to have had the opportunity to know him and likewise very proud to be related to him.    We will certainly miss him and will always hold him dear to our hearts.

Dad was the most fun person to be with, and my memories all center around going to the movies, out to eat, or on fabulous trips to exotic parts. He was a true genius, always seeking knowledge through books and experiences. I share his love of learning and travel, and I will miss him every day until we are reunited in the non-physical world. The attached photo is of perhaps my first exotic trip. My parents, my sister, and I are posing on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii.  I'm five years old. (My little brother was too young to go with us.) Happy travels, Dad! You can go anywhere you want now. 

Estabas muy contento y también nervioso ese día.  Y a todos les preguntabas si era buena idea casarnos.  Pero gracias a Dios estabas muy feliz,  Gracias por esas hermosas palabras que me dijiste.  Siempre las llevaré en mi corazón.  Te amo...  Siempre estabas preocupado por  nosotros hasta el último momento.  Y aunque yo se que hacías tu mejor esfuerzo. Yo se que estas en el cielo ya junto a tus seres queridos.  Pero nos dejas un vacío muy grande y aunque trato de ser fuerte por nuestros hijos.  Es muy difícil te extraño mucho.  Te amo y te amare por siempre. Hasta que nos volvamos a reunir y reír como solamente tu nos hacías reír.  Antibiotic solution.  

I worked with Dr Key at Innnova hospital. He was always a joy to be around. Always had a smile on his face and loved what he did. His patients loved him as well.  He shall be missed by many. Rest in Peace  Dr Key.

Hay un luto en mi alma, por tu partida.  

I first met Dr. Key when he spoke at a coach’s seminar in St. Louis in 1976 when I was the women’s head track coach at the University of Missouri-Columbia. My male assistant coach and I asked if he would be willing to help us manage the team injuries bc during the 70’s there was not much training room assurance for female athletes. He tirelessly helped many of our female athletes even though we were in Missouri and he was in Texas (he was the spokesperson for Nautilus but he lived in Dallas). I suspect he helped many others in our situation as well. That began a lifelong friendship. Most knew Dr. Key helped many male athletes (of all ages), but few know how helpful he was to the development and progress in the care of female athletes. Dr. Key (Jim by this time) operated on both of my knees in 1983, and then again twice on the right knee in 1995.   I had a MRI on the right knee in 2017 to see its status. The Indianapolis orthopedic surgeon was very impressed that the knee still looks great and is optimistic that the surgeries will carry me without needing replacements in the future!!! Jim’s pursuit of a law degree motivated me to follow in his footsteps (my JD was confirmed in 2001).  Thank You, Jim, for being a visionary in medicine and the law; and for being a leader on many fronts. Thank you for being a loyal friend (to many). There will never be another like you. I am a better person because of your example and am blessed for having you in my life. I will miss you greatly.  Prayers for your family and for everyone who knew and loved you. 

I may mostly lived with boys but my dad always treated me like a princess and always looked after me. And that he’s the best and always taught me to always be my self and not let any man take control of me and always love him for that. I’m always happy when he goes to my games for school and cheering for me and always talked to his friends about how fast I am and I always do that to make him proud. Love you dad to the universe and back!!!! 

Too many memories since the mid-1970s to post but a constant theme and wonderful example for all of us is to stay strong. 

 Uncle Ormon  built a houseboat in heaven and his first mate just showed up   one day we shall sail with them and  they will say  welcome aboard you sweet Peas much love miss ya both


    JD  and I were cousins with 10 years between us.  We did not see each other much, mostly at the Stewart grandparents farmhouse.  My early memories revolved around chickens.  He and my sister locked me in the chicken coop when I was about 4 and he as 14.  It seemed like forever, but I'm sure it was not. Later, when he was in med school, we were all gathered at the farm and he volunteered to cut up the chickens for frying.  (I think he was anxious to show off his new found knowledge.) At dinner,  no one could recognize the pieces, but we had all received a lesson in anatomy.  I hope these silly memories provide a smile or a laugh, if only for a moment.
