James Eldon McGhee

James E. McGhee Sr. 83, of Houston, Texas, passed away Wednesday June 1, 2016. He was born in Weaver, Texas in Hopkins County on August 7, 1932 to Everette Eldon and Lucille Estelle McGhee. He is preceded in death by his baby son, David Ray McGhee; Father, Everette McGhee; Mother, Lucille McGhee and Sister, Romayne McGhee. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Betty Sue McGhee of 62 years; children: Regina Cherry and husband Leonard Cherry; James Eldon McGhee Jr. and wife Maryanne, Mark McGhee and wife Leann, Gaylinn Svec and husband Ivan Svec; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He attended Sam Houston High School where he was a cheerleader, a member of the Junior ROTC. He was also an Eagle Scout. He received a letter of acceptance to West Point Academy but was drafted into the United States Marine Corp during the Korean conflict. James was a 32nd degree Master Mason. He retired from NASA after 30 years of service as a Computer Specialists, where he worked alongside others on the Gemini, Apollo, and Challenger Missions.

The Family would like to give thanks to the caregivers of Mr. McGhee; Maria, Helen (Miss Bonnie), Crystal, Angelica and Billy Jo.

The Family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 5-7 pm at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A funeral service will be held in the Family Chapel on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 10:00 am followed by the interment in Brookside Memorial Park.
