Raised in Park Slope, Jim attended St. Augustine’s High School; and graduated from Manhattan College. He later received a Master’s degree at Pace University.
After college, Jim joined the United States Marine Corps, and was deployed to Vietnam, where he was promoted to Sergeant.
Following his military service, Jim joined Esso (later known as Exxon, and now as Exxon Mobil), in Manhattan. In 1976, he was transferred to Europe, based in Rome, and later in Brussels. After 16 years as an “ex-pat”, he returned to the United States in 1993, and worked in Houston. He retired from Exxon in 1999.
In retirement, Jim taught Accounting, and Tax, courses (including this past semester) at Lone Star College - Montgomery.
He was an active volunteer with veteran’s organizations, particularly Operation Military Embrace (OME). With his fervent wish to “Be buried by Marines, with Marines”, he will be interred at Houston National Cemetery, with a Marine Corps Honor Guard.
Jim is survived by his brother John and his wife, Eileen (Brewster NY), and his nephew Bryan (Monrovia CA).
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a charitable donation be made in Jim’s memory to a veteran’s organization of your choosing.
