Jim was a National Merit Scholar and attended Oklahoma State University, graduating summa cum laude in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Jim was employed as a project engineer at Technip and worked as an engineer in the energy industry in Houston his entire career. Jim enjoyed traveling, particularly visiting New York and London, catching as many plays and shows as he could. He evolved from being a finicky eater in his youth, to become an enthusiast of Indian and Thai food, though pizza remained his favorite. He enjoyed cooking as well.
Jim was a loving son, brother and uncle, a top-notch engineer and colleague, and a trusted friend. Although Jim battled with congenital heart disease, he lived and died with grace and courage.
Jim is survived by his parents, Robert and Mary Jane Metzinger; sister, Emily Anderson and her husband Tom; brothers, John Metzinger, Bruce Metzinger and his wife Patricia, Kurt Metzinger and his wife Bernadine, and Tom Metzinger and his wife Vickie; and nieces and nephews Camille Metzinger, John Metzinger, Mark Metzinger, Jessica Anderson, Katherine Anderson, Evan Metzinger and Sydney Metzinger.
The family is grateful for the compassion shown to Jim by the physicians and staff at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Jim from six until eight o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 29th of April, in the Jasek Chapel and pavilion of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. A Vigil Service will be celebrated at seven o’clock.
The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at half-past noon on Tuesday, the 30th of April, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc in Houston, where Rev. John Metzinger, brother of the deceased, is to serve as celebrant.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions in Jim’s name be directed to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 841125, Dallas, TX, 75284-1125; or to the Texas Heart Institute, 6770 Bertner, MC3-116, Houston, TX, 77030.
