James Eldon Savage, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, 80, went to be with the Lord on Monday, the 19th of August, 2024. Jim was born on the 27th of December, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to Eldon and Lillian Savage. Jim graduated from Bellaire High School in 1961 and earned his BBA in Finance from the University of Texas in 1965. Following graduation, he honorably served in the United States Army National Guard in Lockhart, Texas.
In 1966, Jim married the love of his life, Shirley Jean Sachtleben and shared the next 57 years in marriage.
Jim’s illustrious career in banking and real estate spanned over five decades. He began his banking career in the training program at Texas Commerce Bank, where he forged lifelong friendships and rose to become President of several banks, including Texas Commerce Bank in Fort Worth and Texas Commerce Bank Greenway Plaza. After 15 years in the banking industry, Jim transitioned to his true passion: commercial real estate. A leader in the Houston business community, Jim was renowned for his integrity, strong work ethic, business acumen, and ability to build lasting relationships.
Jim loved spending time with his family, whether that be playing catch in the backyard, enjoying nachos and fajitas at Molina’s, or cheering on the Astros and Longhorns. A 46-year member of Lakeside Country Club, Jim was an avid golfer who proudly achieved a hole-in-one at Barton Creek Country Club. His other passions included the outdoors, reading and Texas history – befitting his status as a sixth-generation Texan.
Jim will be truly missed by so many who loved him (and whom he loved), but his life was well lived, and he created a legacy that will carry on through his family.
Jim is survived by his wife Shirley; Sons, James Robert Savage and Todd Wayne Savage and wife Charlotte; Grandchildren, Garrett Justice Savage and Tucker Martin Savage; Brother, Bob Savage and wife Joy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jim Savage will be deeply missed, but his impact on those who knew and loved him will endure forever.
