James R. Vater

James R. Vater, born on the 14th of January 1931, in Houston, passed away on Sunday, the 28th of September 2025, in Houston. He was 94 years of age. He was the son of Walter Ernst and Doris Mona (Knolle) Vater who predeceased him on the 22nd of February 2021, and the 11th of January 1996, respectively.

Jim attended public schools in Houston including San Jacinto High School. He attended The University of Texas and The University of Houston receiving a degree in business from that school.

He was a member of Delta Tau Delta social fraternity at The University of Texas. He served in the United States Navy from 1953 until 1957 as a pilot and officer. He worked mainly in public accounting for many years and was a C.P.A.

Jim was a member of the American Institute of C.P.A.’s, the Texas Society of C.P.A., and the Houston Chapter of T.S.C.P.A.’s. He retired in 1960 to pursue personal interest.

He had twelve cousins and numerous family members and friends.

Jim was a member of the Methodist Church.

A graveside service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 6th of October at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
