

Jane Chandler Wells West, 79, was called to the glory of God on Sunday, May 22, 2011 in Sugar Land, Texas. Jane, a long-time resident of Houston, was the wife of Dr. Dan C. West, who preceded her in death on April 21, 2010. They have four children, son, Daniel Patrick West, wife Angela; daughter, Mary West Hiett, husband David; son, David Michael West, wife Karla; son, Bryan Thomas West, wife Dora; also adoring grandchildren Laura, Daniel, Whitney, Daryl (wife Michelle), Dana, Elizabeth, David Jr., Ryan, Bryan Jr., Brenda and Chandler and one great-grandchild, Madeline Jane Hiett.
Jane was the eldest of 5 children, and is survived by her siblings, Mary Lee. W. Whedbee, husband Bill; Maxine W. Overman; Harriett W. Sink, husband Ron; David Elliott Wells, wife Susan.
Jane, a native of North Carolina, was working as a pastor’s secretary for The First Baptist Church in Greensboro, when Howard E. Butt, evangelist and businessman, spoke there. Inspired by his words and enthusiasm, she moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to work for him. While in Corpus Christi, she met and later married Dan C. West on December 26, 1956. They celebrated 53 years of marriage together.
Jane was a beloved mother to her children whom she and Dan raised to love God and to appreciate the value of friendships and the love and closeness of family. She was a loyal and generous friend and her life was a blessing to all who knew her.
Jane’s love of music and her beautiful voice led her to the position of choir director and soloist for St. Francis De Sales Church. She also sang with other chorale groups for the Houston Symphony. Her kindness and generosity were exemplified when she gave her treasured violin to a promising musician who later came to her house and performed a private recital for her in honor of this wonderful gift.
The family will receive friends at 5:00 pm, on Monday, May 30, 2011 at Earthman Funeral Directors – Hunters Creek Chapel, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm.
Jane will be laid to rest following a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. John Vianney Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX, Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:30 am.
