Janice graduated from Sam Houston in Huntsville with a Bachelor of Arts, carrying forward a steady dedication to learning and a thoughtful approach to life that remained with her in the years that followed.
She built a respected career and later retired as a bank officer at First City in Houston, a role that reflected her reliability and the care she brought to the responsibilities entrusted to her.
In 1968, Janice met Larry Hanson, whom she would later marry. Together they shared simple joys and cherished traditions, including bluebonnet trips and visits to Seaside, Florida—moments that became part of the rhythm of a life rooted in love and companionship. She was passionate about Christmas and loved her fireplace. She typically went through 3 cords per winter. Christmas in her home was something special. Her passion was creating and sending Christmas cards, and photography. She also collected glass keepsakes and owned many glass chickens. She is survived by her husband, Larry “LaRue” Hanson.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Jodi Madigan.
A faithful woman with a warm heart and an easy sense of humor, Janice found deep comfort in the things she loved and the people—and animals—she held close. She was passionate about animals, especially her beloved dogs Dakota, Montana, Shadeaux, and Pecos, and she also loved cats.
Janice delighted in staying connected through social media and brought the same spirited devotion to her teams. She was a diehard Houston Texans fan and watched the NFL no matter who was playing. She also loved the Houston Gamblers and enjoyed baseball.
Her generosity extended beyond her immediate circle through charitable giving to several organizations, including those serving the poor and needy in the Appalachian Mountains and Kenneth Copeland Ministries. In these quiet acts of support, Janice’s faith and compassion were expressed with sincerity and purpose.

Jani you are the love of my life and I was blessed by the good Lord to have met you and be married to you for 36 beautiful years. We got married in Independence Texas. When you asked me why we got married in Independence I told you because this is where we lose our independence. We got married at the bell tower when the bells rang. Thank you, Lord.
