Jeanne Harkins Stanbery of Houston, Texas peacefully entered her new life on April 2, 2018. She was born in Ennis, Texas on February 25, 1925, the oldest daughter of Gordon and Audna Harkins. After graduating from Ennis High School, Jeanne worked in Dallas, and then Houston, where she met the love of her life, Bob. After their marriage, they moved to Oklahoma City, where they started their married life and family together before returning to Houston in 1967. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, and her sister, Margaret Harkins Lumpkins.
Jeanne will be remembered as a genuinely caring, kind and loving person. She was a loyal and supportive wife to Bob for their fifty-three years together. As a mother and grandmother, she was wise and nurturing, always showing her unconditional love and support for all of her children’s endeavors. Her love for her family was limitless and that love extended beyond her own immediate family to countless others who she also considered “family”. Everyone who walked into her home felt the warmth of her love and were greatly impacted by her generous ways. Her husband was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and, through her support of Bob, she also became involved in Al-Anon. For over forty years, they helped change the lives of those affected by the disease. Jeanne loved her Lord Jesus Christ and she spent much of her time serving Him by sharing her gifts and talents at Memorial Drive Christian Church, where she and her husband were charter members.
Jeanne leaves her loving children to cherish her memory: Sue Abrams and her husband, Barry, Jane Ford and her husband, Don and Bob Stanbery, III and his wife, Marilyn; Jeanne’s grandchildren, Laura Segura and her husband, Nathanael, Andrea Buck and her husband, Trent, David Ford and his fiancée, Kelly, Sarah Ralph and her husband, Scott, Emily Kids and her husband, Landon, and Robert Daniel Stanbery; and Jeanne’s great grandchildren, Paige, Luke, Ben and Walker.
We are eternally grateful for the loving care shown to our mother by Jeanie, Tonya and Carol and by UltraStaff President Jolyn Scheirman and her staff Brenda, Kelly, Stacie, Angie and aides Abby, Alexandria, Rasheeda, Regina, and Shanta.
A private family graveside service will be held in her honor and memory. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Houston Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston, 303 Jackson Hill Street, Houston, Texas 77007 or the charity of your choice.
