A year has passed, and Joan remains in my thoughts and in my heart.

I knew Joan when she was living in Virginia in 1982 and we were very close during that time.  She returned to Texas later that year to try to work things out with her ex-fiance, but it didn't work out.  Still, she wanted to stay in the Houston area.  I'm so sad to hear that she has left us too early.  Her life was a true treasure to those she touched, and I will be forever indebted to her for all she did for me.  I pray you find comfort as only God can provide in ways beyond our understanding.

Mr.Baron, you do not know me and I heard of Joan's death just today on August 1, 2012.   I am Becky Campbell Mathers and my family lived next to the Kanik family in Carrolltown while all the Campbell and Kanik kids were growing up.  I knew Joan very well as a child.  I can see that as an adult Joan found love, happiness and success in her chosen career in working with children.  To tell you a bit about Joan, as a child, is to say that she was the dearest, cheerfullest child that I can remember.  With 9 children in the Kanik family, all of them bright and full of life, Joan tended to be quieter but always with a smile.  When I was in college, taking a child development course, at Saint Francis University in Loretta, PA, I was assigned a class project to interview a young child and to compare it to developmental theory.  I chose Joan because I thought she was such an engaging child and she readily cooperated in answering all my questions.   She was a wonderful child and I can see that she has been more than a wonderful wife to you.  God bless you in your loss of this most precious person.  You will be in my prayers.

Joan, you were a wonderful person. We don't have enough and the world lost one.

Joan had such quiet, gentle courage over the years.  She had a ready smile for her students, colleagues, and friends.  We share in your grief, Pete. She will be missed.

Pete, The service was a beautiful one today. I would say Joan would be proud that all her planning to make it as it was went off so well.  She was a wonderful person that I will always remember in my heart and prayers.

She was loving, gracious, gentle, and generous to the end even when her prognosis was grave. Each encounter with her was a learning experience of what one should be. She amazed me as she embraced each day and sought to focus on how she could help others. I count myself honored to have known her.

I was so very sorry to hear about Joan's passing. She was an incredible individual and I was fortunate to have known her. I could always count on her to volunteer for many of the neighborhood's events such as the July 4th Bicycle Parade and the Garden Oaks Home Tour. She always had a smile on her face. It was contajious. My sincere condolences.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Our hearts and prayers go out for Joan and her devoted husband and my dear cousin Pete Baron.. She was a very brave and special woman and will be missed by all whose lives she had touched. A special place awaits her with the Lord and all of our family that have gone before her. We love you Joan.

I will miss Joan.  Joan and I have been friends for many years.  We shared a lot of good times and laughter.  She leaves behind many happy memories for me.
