

Joan Carol McManus was born August 26, 1930 to Edgar and Thelma Pender in New Orleans, LA. She entered into eternal rest on April 19, 2013 in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her husband, Marion McManus and children, Melissa Chapman and Michael McManus. She is also survived by her grandchild, Justin Chapman and his wife, Cassie. She is also survived by brother, Edgar Pender and sister, Marlene Pender and great aunts, Estelle Marques and Delores Short along with many nieces and nephews. Many thanks for her caretaker of 10 years, Halina Cebrat, who is like family and we could not have made it without her. Also thanks to her other caregivers Avis, Pat and Lexi.
Joan grew up in New Orleans and always had a love for the city. Joan attended LSU at the age of 16 after skipping two grades. She loved her school and was a big believer in education. Joan received her degree in education and taught school for many years. Joan met her future husband, Marion, while attending LSU. They were married on July 6, 1952 in New Orleans, LA.
Joan was a wonderful and loving mother to her children and a loving wife to her husband. Joan had a lifelong love of travel and art. She and Marion took many trips and instilled a love of travel in their kids. She loved playing bridge with her friends when she was younger. She was loved and will be missed by all.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 21, 2013, from 4:00 pm till 6:00 pm in the Allen Room at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013, at 10:30 am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, Texas 77079, with interment to follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
Till the end, Joan had a witty sense of humor and a strong personality and was quick to let you know exactly what was on her mind.
