So much has happened since I last saw you Papi ...  Joaquin Antonio and Jose Luis are both marry now and just recently were each able to buy  their  own homes.  They are hard working and men of good with strong family values.  Joaquin Antonio and his wife Annika had a baby girl name Isabel. It's a joy to see how Joaquin has embrace parenthood and the love and care that comes from him makes me feel so proud of him. He is in a good place in life. Jose luis married Jessica and embrace into his life her little daughter, Kaitlyn.  Would you had ever picture him playing "tea" and brushing her hair before putting her to bed.  He's got a big heart and happy at last. Yes, they make me proud and happy.  Life is good, chaotic at times but always good.... Me... doing good papa, Carolina gives me what I need and now at the beginning of my quiet years life is still good.  That's all I wanted to tell you.  Still miss you and think about you, love always

Papi, ya hace un ano que nos dejo fisicamente y aunque sigue conmigo en mi corazon, el dolor de no tenerlo cerquita sigue alli.  Aracely esta aca y dentro de poco iremos a misa para pedirle al Colochito que lo siga teiendo en su presencia al igual que al resto de nuestros seres queridos que hoy le hacen compania.  Me imagino que aburrido no estara pues tiene a sus grandes amigos cerca y a sus familiares tambien.  
Espero que me este guardando un lugarcito para cuando mi dia llegue y espero un gran abrazo de su parte para recibirme y darme la vienvenida.  
Papito, es duro escribirle sin que las lagrimas  se derramen, ya ve que soy  llorona de nacimiento.  Espero de todo corazon que este disfrutando de mucha paz y que los sufrimientos que le afectaron antes de su partida sean solamente un recuerdo.  Lo quiero mucho, si Papi, se que estas palabras no salen facilmente de mi, tonta que fui al desperdiciarlas durante su vida conmigo, lo llevo conmigo como si fuera ayer y su memoria estara conmigo hasta el dia que de mi ultimo suspiro. Querido papa, ha pasado casi  un ano en el cual han sucedido muchas cosas, lo hemos extranado en nuestras celebraciones familiares, pensando como habria disfrutado de la boda de Manuelito, conocer a Stevan, celebrar las bodas de Maria y Fatima que seran el proximo ano y sus visitas, sobre todo sus visitas.  Espero que este disfrutando de esa nueva dimension en la que algun dia espero nos reunamos.  Con el amor de siempre, su hija Aracely

Everyone who knew my Abuelito, knew that he had something special about him that would simply draw you near. Abueltio was so loved and cherished by everyone he knew. I will forever hold close to my heart the memories of waking up to the warm smell of freshly made pancakes and of him cutting them into perfect squares for me, and the excitement of us driving all over town to deliver sodas to his machines and him putting me in charge of holding the money bags. I loved to swish them from side to side to hear the coins clash together.  I remember the times that he would pick me up from school when I was sick and he would always buy me a cheeseburger on the way home. I think, at times, I enjoyed being sick. But of all the wonderful memories that I hold close to my heart, there is one that will always stand out. The same man, who enlightened my world and brought joy to my life, also brought joy to the life of my sons. I will forever cherish the expression on Azriel's face every time he would run to his Abueltio to give him a kiss. I am comforted to know that when my son leans over the picture at my desk to give grandpa a kiss, that he does it with the pure innocence of a child showing his love for his grandfather. I will forever remember the expression of joy on my grandfather's face every time he saw his little "colochos" and I will live with the peace in knowing that my beloved Abuelito was man who touched all of our lives from the oldest of the old to the tiniest of the tiny. And I will give thanks to ELOHIM that my Abueltio is in a place where all tears have been wiped away,  where there is no more death, nor sorrow, where there is no sickness, nor pain, and the former things are passed away” Rev. 21:4. Gracias Abueltio por las dulces memorias que solo tú me podías dar y porque no tan solamente los tengo yo, pero también mis hijos. Siempre vivirás en nuestras memorias y corazones.

Someone once told me that time heals all and that time helps you forget...but the pain I feel deep inside and the emptiness left by your passing can never be healed nor forgotten! Every time I close my eyes, I feel your presence holding me and the warmth of your love nurturing my troubled soul. Dad I miss you and have this need to tell you how much I love and miss you here with me.We wasted so much time with the trivial things of life and neglected to build upon our feelings and needs for each other. I was not ready just yet to see you depart from us, the learning process had just began and I miss your wise words and firm but gentle ways. The life of a father and educator is never finished and now that you are gone all I can do is to try to emulate what for so long you tried to convey to me. Family comes first, second and third...but never forget those in need of sound advice nor a helping hand. Papa I love you and forever now you live in my soul and hopefully in my ways. The lord took you and to you one day I'll go to.

       Sus 4 feroces leones

Joaquin Campos Lopez, o como el mismo se habia apodado, "Don Gustavo" y sus cuatro feroces leones, los leones claro, eramos sus cuatro hijos.  

La historia comienza el 21 de agosto de 1930 y a travez de los anos,  de muchas aventuras buenas y malas,  llega al 26 de septiembre del 2010, cuando desafortunadamente lo perdimos para que el fuera a un lugar mucho mejor, a donde merecia ir a finalmente descansar.

Don Joaquin, una persona muy estricta consigo misma y con los demas, muy dedicada a su trabajo pero al mismo tiempo siempre estaba presente cuando alguien necesitaba su ayuda, una persona que cada vez que encontraba un problema, sabia enfrentarlo y salir airoso, estas fueron las cualidades que lo llevaron al exito y todos los que lo conocieron lo saben. Una persona que se veia muy seria pero era muy jovial, gozaba con sus nietos y nos enseno a sus hijos a ser responsables y a enfrentar la vida no importaba la situacion que fuera.  Un hombre de familia que quiso mucho a su esposa, que fue un hijo excelente y un buen yerno y que disfrutaba de una buena charla con los amigos y conocidos.

Papa, siempre vivira en nuestros corazones y siempre lo extranaremos y recordaremos las aventuras que pasamos durante nuestros viajes, por que eso si, a don Joaquin le encantaba viajar y conocer nuevas culturas.

When I speak of my grandfather to others I refer to the stories I listened to growing up.  A brilliant man whom overcame adversity and, the disparity in wealth that exists in El Salvador.  He rose the ranks of a major coporation to a position of presitge through his hard work and buisness savey. That in itself a tramendous achievment, yet his legacy was only begining.  Through a terrible twist in fate a civil war erupted in El Salvador and my family left the country guided by their pillar of strength, my grandfather.  Losing everything when comming to the United States my grandpa did not submit to the pressures of life and tragedy of his past, he pushed on and, once again rose in society provinding security and for his family.  He is a testimate to the resiliance of the Campos family, an example to which we can strive to be, a natural leader.  In this aspect I see in my grandpa the virtues which define a strong man and, this fills me with pride to have known him.

Yet this is not the memory I charish most of him.  I cherish the warm moments in his home, with the family together . The reunions where the unconditional love we share for each other created a welcoming and warm nucleus of acceptance and embrace amongts those whom share the Campos name.  My grandfather was a man whom brought family together, whom openly invided us to share in the beautiful experience that is family.  The legend is inspiring, but the man is whom I miss, whom I charish.  I charish the trip to Nasa, the long drives in his van, the day I introduced him reggae music and he actually bobbed his head to the rythm.  I wish I had taken more time to speak with him, to listen to his advice, to mature under his wisdom.  I wish I had more time to grow up and see pride in his eyes.  I am sorry lito for not being around as much as I should have, but I love you so much, and I hope I make you proud one day.  I will never forget you, and the lessons you taught through your actions and, life.  Thank you for never giving up, for bringing family together, for helping me in my time of need and, for being alive.  You were a blessing upon this earth.

My grandfather was a man that did all that was possible for his family.  Possibly the hardest working and most dedicated man I've ever known.  He managed to put in a full day of work and still have time to come home and spend with his grandchildren.  Unfortunately, I did not grow up in close proximity to him but he was always the first to call for birthdays and he made sure that any visit I did pay down to Texas was memorable.

He always had the ability to ask the pertinent questions about your life.  Sometimes they made you feel unprepared but they made you realize that you could always be more prepared for things.  At the same time, he knew how to keep moments light and happy.  Without a doubt I learned a lot from the way he carried himself.  If I take nothing more than his work ethic and dedication to family then I will have taken only the basis of what made him great.

For all the advice, love, friendship, guidance and laughs...in short, for all the memories, I thank you abuelito.

Siempre viviras en nuestros corazones.

I first met Don Joaquin in 1994 when I applied at Alfred's Painting & Carpet Cleaning for a receptionist position. I was 21 years old and up until then I had never had an office job. I had so little experience that just answering the phone was nerve-wracking. He must have seen something in me because he was very patient in teaching me what was needed of my position. He was a very strict and meticulous teacher, allowing very little for mistakes. He always expected a little more and pushed a little bit farther leading me to excel at my job. Through his teaching I learned to take pride in my work; to always expect more of myself and learn from my mistakes. He taught me to never allow myself to fall into others low expectations of themselves and set myself apart. Because of his teaching and guidance I continue in this business after 16 years, priding myself in my work ethic.

One of his "sayings" has always stood out in my memory. Whenever I felt fear or trepidation towards something new he would tell me "Hay que tirarse al mar y nadar o ahogarse". His words continue to ring true today in my life and have given me the courage to dare to dream and take risks. To jump into tumultuous waters and know that in the end the storm will pass and leave me floating in the calm blissful waters of my success.

I would like to share one more memory. During lunchtime we usually stayed in to eat. He would heat up his lunch in the microwave and rush to finish his food. After finishing his lunch he would pack up his containers and say "Ya paso el susto". I guess it's a silly memory, but it always made me smile.

He never met my children or my husband. Sadly I lost contact with him after leaving Alfred's Painting in 2001. I wasn't there during his sickness and never saw him become so fragile. In a way i'm glad because I still picture him the way I last saw him.... Strong.

You will be greatly missed Don Joaquin. Thank you so much for influencing my life in the way you did. May you rest in eternal peace.
