Joe, or Memommie, as she was affectionately called, was born Jan 4, 1930 in Hopkinsville, KY. She met her one true love, Doug Garrott in Hopkinsville in the local drugstore where he was working as the soda jerk. They were married in 1948 after his service in the Navy. Their honeymoon was a bus trip to Austin, TX for him to attend the University of Texas. Doug went to work for Humble Oil and Refinery which later became Exxon. Memommie raised their two children, Greg and Susan. Being in the oil and gas industry, they were often relocated, living in Roswell, NM, Snyder, Corpus Christi {twice}, Kingsville, Midland {3 times}, Houston {twice}, Denver, Oklahoma City, New York City before finally ending up in Houston. Memommie watched after her grandchildren, Kimberly and Doug while they were growing up and was present in their lives almost daily. She loved to spend time at their lake house on Lake LBJ especially when all the family was there. She enjoyed vacationing and cruising with the family. She was a wonderful cook and true southern lady. She was also an avid animal lover and always had numerous pets.
Memommie was preceded in death by her parents, sister and husband of 55 years, Doug Garrott. She is survived by her son, Greg Garrott, his wife Denise; daughter Susan Garrott Raschke; grandchildren Doug Garrott, Kimberly Garrott Manning, husband Silas; and great-grandson, Braden Manning.
We will miss her daily but know she is reunited with her husband, Doug, her parents, sister and all of her pets that she had throughout the years.
The Garrott Family would like to thank Harmony Cares Hospice for their continued care and support. We would especially like to thank Irene Zaragosa for her loving care of Mother for the past 13 years.
In Lou of Flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Houston SPCA (HoustonSPCA.org) or an animal charity of your choice
