

Joe Angel Esquivel Sr., also known as Pelon, was a vibrant soul known for his love for Tejano music, dancing, sports and his athletic spirit. Joe Angel Esquivel Sr. "Pelon", passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, at his home in 2nd Ward in Houston, Texas, at the age of 91. Born on July 23, 1934, Joe lived a life full of passion, family, and community.
Joe was a devoted family man, survived by five of his six children ( Mary, Jessie, Teresa, John & Sandy), 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, one sister Isabel Arredondo (Jesus) and numerous of nieces, nephews, friends and his ex-wife Amelia Payan Esquivel.
He is preceded in death by his mother Luisa DeLaRosa, wife Beatrice, son Joe Esquivel Jr., grandson Alex Gregory Garcia, brother Celso and sisters Petra, Connie, Felipa & Maria. His family was his greatest joy! He cherished every moment spent with them. Whether it was cheering at their games or sharing stories during family gatherings or a night out dancing.
An avid sports enthusiast, Joe’s athleticism was shone through his younger years, where he excelled in various sports and instilled a love for activity with those around him. His competitive spirit and zest for life were contagious, leaving a lasting impact on his family and friends. Joe’s legacy of love, athleticism, dancing and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A visitation for Joe will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo, 2516 NAVIGATION BLVD, HOUSTON, TX 77003. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, 2516 NAVIGATION BLVD, HOUSTON, TX 77003. A committal service will occur Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home & Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023.
