

Joe P. Gracey passed away at his home in Houston, Texas surrounded by his family. Recognizing he had no control over his birth and death date his challenge was to use the time in between to accomplish as much as he could. He was fortunate to have a very loving and caring mother and father who instilled in him the importance of hard work, honesty and caring for others. He grew up in Robstown, Texas and was a graduate of Texas Tech University. He spent 39 years in the oil industry including 31 years with Exxon Corporation, retiring in 1988. During his time with Exxon he and his family worked overseas for 25 consecutive years with technical and management assignments in Venezuela, Malaysia and England. During this time he had the good fortune of seeing a lot of the world and worked with some very wonderful people. Following his retirement in 1988 he and his wife Shirley spent a lot of time cruising all over the world. He was a wonderful father and husband and will be in his family’s thoughts forever.
He is predeceased by his father and mother Rhea and Corrye Gracey and a younger sister Rhea Louis Beckham. He is survived by his wife Shirley and their two sons David and Peggy Gracey and Richard and Bea Gracey. Other survivors include Brother Charles P. Steward and his two children Chuck and Sherry, brother in- law B.W Beckham and his two children Nanci and Beverly.
A private family only funeral service will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Cemetery.
