

Joe is survived by his son Joe A. Moore, Jr. and wife Betsy, daughter Debra K. Stafford and husband Jimmy; grandchildren Stephanie Gray and husband Harrison, Jennifer Grosse and husband Brian, Keaton Stafford and wife Jamie; great grandchildren Ayden Gray, Oliver Gray, Eli Gray, Alexis Grosse, Amelia Stafford, and Mackenzie Stafford. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Clara Mary Moore of 64 loving years; siblings George Moore Jr., Helen Hitt, and Dorothy Butler.
Joe, Sr. served his country with honor during World War II. He joined the US Navy on October 10th, 1942 at the age of 16 and went to San Diego for his naval training. His first assignment was USNAS Barbers Point, O'ahu, Hawaii where he received his order to Pearl Harbor rising to the level of Tug Master. While serving as a Tug Master, he had the honor to assist in berthing the USS Texas several times. His next assignment was NOB Midway where he commanded a crash boat assisting pilots whose aircraft were downed while trying to return to the airfield. After 6 months on Midway, Joe Sr. was assigned as the Boatswain's Mate aboard two different Mine sweepers operating out of the Pacific Coast, the USS Phantom and the USS Devastator. He we honorably discharged from the US Navy on November 27, 1946.
Upon his departing military service, he started working with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a Lineman. He held a number of positions while working for SWBT / ATT before rising to the level of Supervisor, Repair whereas he had overall responsibility for the telephone systems serving the Houston Medical Centers. He retired from ATT in May 1978.
During his many years of retirement, he enjoyed tinkering around the house, gardening, and hunting, but, most of all….. fishing. Some of his most cherished memories are those of the fishing trips he had later in life on Lake Conroe with friends and family. Besides these activities, his love of family was always a priority.
A Visitation will be held in his honor on Friday, February 1, 2019 beginning at 10:30 a.m. inside the Magnolia Chapel of American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. The Celebration of Life Service will commence at 11:30 a.m. after which the Navy he so proudly served will bestow him with honors.
