

Joe G Sarabia Jr. was called by our Heavenly Father on January 14, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born October 5, 1931 in Hearne, Texas, to Joe and Mary Sarabia. Joe worked for 17 years at the Southern Pacific Railroad and retired after 23 years at Anheuser-Busch. He was the Shop Steward and Trustee of the Teamsters, 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus and President of the St. Vincent De Paul Society. When reminiscing about his past with his grandkids he said “He was a Machinist, a Troubleshooter and a Troublemaker.” His love of family and friends kept him active throughout the years. Some of his favorite pastimes included dancing, fishing, playing cards, camping and feeding his sweet tooth with endless amounts of ice cream.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jane R. Sarabia and their three children, John Sarabia and wife, Danee, Susan Smith and husband Daniel, and James Sarabia and wife, Debbie; his surviving brothers, Jesse Sarabia and his wife Josie, and Milton Sarabia and his wife Mary; his grandchildren, lovingly referred to as the “Rat Pack”, Jennifer Avila and husband Christian, Marisa White and husband Mark, Joseph Harmier, Evelyn Ziebro and husband Travis, Sarah Besich and husband Thomas and Michelle Sarabia. He was blessed with 6 beautiful great-grandchildren Andrew, Mark and Stephen Avila, Charlie and Jillian Besich, and Juliana Umana.
Visitation and Rosary will be held on January 18, 2013, Friday beginning at 5:00pm, with a Rosary to follow at 7:00pm at Brookside Funeral Home 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
His life will be celebrated during Mass on January 19, 2013, Saturday at 9:00am at St. Leo The Great Parish, 2131 Lauder Road. Internment will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale, immediately following the funeral Mass.
