

John was born and raised in Opelousas, Louisiana along with five brothers and two sisters After graduating high school, he joined the army and was able to travel to many parts of the world and graduate from college.
John made his way to Houston, Texas where he met Bonnie Thomas through his aunt Diane. They became great friends and were married in June of 1975. He was a very hard worker and finally retired from Valeron after 27 years. Once retired, He enjoyed spending more time with his family and sitting on the porch with his puzzle books, scratch off’s, and cigarettes. John loved dancing and jamming to zydeco music. On occasions when we were able to get him out of the house, we always knew he was ready to go when he said, “Alright, gotta go feed the cat”. John enjoyed cooking and loved taking a good nap. Some of his favorite sayings were “Happy as a Fèlot”, “Pistachè”, “Como se Va”, “Oooh well” and “Hey Boo”.
John was preceded in death by his parents Clement & Leona Lavergne, his brothers: Clement Lavergne Jr. and Mathew (Mack) Lavergne, and sister Betty Martin.
John leaves to cherish his memory; a loving wife of 47 years Bonnie Lavergne; Kesha Rhodes Sims aka “Nik” (daughter); Eric Lavergne aka “Bud” (son); Amber Bergeron aka “Boo” (Only grandchild); brothers: Ray Lavergne, James Lavergne & Perry Lavergne; sister Jeanette (Sis) Carrier; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
